Hi everybody,
I´m asking myself, whether pictures from the national parks like Yosemite or Yellowstone that show special attractions from these parks are copyrighted and need a PR to publish/sell.
Haven`t found any official website, that could clear it up.
Any clues?

Well that's pretty clear to me. Unless you're shooting in an area off limits to the public, using a model or props that aren't part of the park proper, or the park incurs a cost as a result of your shooting, then you are pretty much free to shoot there.
I suppose the question that arises is 'what happens when you shoot a photo of your model with some recognizable icon of the park like, say, Half Dome or El Capitan as part of the image. Sounds like you'd need a permit then. |

There's a table under that link and I'm looking at the first line:
1 - 2 people, camera & tripod only $0/day
:)
So that probably means you should still get the permit but it'll be free. |

I read that to mean that IF you meet one of the three listed criteria for obtaining a permit. . then the fees will attach for the permit based upon the number of people in your party. I would be willing to wager that Mr and Mrs Tourist, on a hike to Half Dome, on a public trail,do not need a permit to shoot. Their usage of the park does not fall under the three proscribed conditions for obtaining a permit. |
