These last weeks have been extremely busy and extremely promising for our community. Here is our latest announcement:

Dreamstime partnered with Boom Bucket for expanding its market exposure even more. In addition to the U.S., Boom Bucket Mobile has distribution in the EEU and North America, and is expanding operations in Asia and Japan.

And we all know what Asia, specifically Japan, means in terms of mobile phone users.

You can read the whole press release on Andy Goetze's blog: LINK.

More interesting things are coming down the pipe so stay tuned ;)

Great to know though only a fraction of photographers would benefit from that, as the mobile content that gets downloaded is very well definied and it does not go in line with best selling stock photos. On top of that there is lots of branded content lying on carriers' decks and such will always be superior.

Also when it comes to mobile market one has to be sure about the distribution policies. I am not particularly familiar with companies doing wallpapers but hope that they have direct relationship with carriers which in return can maximise the payouts. Any clues what would be the royalty fees generated through mobile sales?

Best Regards and Good Luck

Excellent news. It really is good to see the business direction going forward as well as diversifying.

I find one sentence from the press release interesting :

"Boom Bucket Mobile is a labor of love created by artists for mobile consumers who love art. "

Serban, will this influence the type of image accepted by DT in the future, perhaps allowing more artistic images in addition to the more traditional stock photography?

Ian.

I didn't get it either until I read the article at the link that Achilles posted:

"Boom Bucket Mobile offers on-demand access to wholly-owned, royalty-free mobile wallpapers, animations, ringtones, and video in the mobile content marketplace.

To meet the overwhelming demand for personalized cell phone screensavers, the partnership with Dreamstime.com will increase the available images to Boom Bucket Mobile customers to more than 1,000,000 at the very first day of the launch. "

...

"Boom Bucket Mobile customers will be able to download high quality candid shots, graphics, sketches, artwork, scenic backgrounds and more on the fly. Even the most discriminating Boom Bucket Mobile customer can find the precise photo that they are looking for to personalize and customize their cellular telephone."

Cool idea! I like it. :)

So where are the details on royalties to photographers? What is the structure here?

This is a market I have been delivering to privately for a long time and at EL type rates as it has been a resale situation for the distributor. Are we now going to be servicing this market at small download rates?

What will the distributor be charging for the downloads. I truly hope this is a premium service for the contributors and if it is not a premium to us then will we be allowed to opt out of this distribution?

Didn't know that personalizing cellular phones was such a big thing at the moment.

Hope it'll become what it promises for all DT's.

This sounds like a great deal to me! Tapping into a large international market and getting tons of increased exposure are very welcome!

I really don't see any downside. I didn't see anything in the press release to suggest that there will be any reselling going on. Sounds more like this is a portal for accessing our work on DT.

Congrats to Dreamstime and staff for continuously opening new markets for our images. You guys have been busy! :D

Lisa, Boom Bucket is obviously not in this deal for free. So if the downloads are profiting Boom Bucket then it sounds like resale to me. If it is not resale and Boom Bucket has no markup on the downloads then where does their revenue stream come from.

Don't get me wrong I am not dismissing this partnership, I know very well what a lucrative market the mobil space is. I simply have some questions I need answers from.

If the end user is downloading the image themselves directly from DT and DT is goin to provide the GUI and deliver the image to the phone then I see it as just another download.

However if the traffic is coming from the Boom Bucket website and the prices are set by Boom Bucket and Boom Bucket delivers the download to the phone then it is a resale situation and we should be entitled to a larger then normal cut of the commissions generated.

From looking at the Boom Bucket website it appears that they will be a subscription service so answers to the question of royalty structure are even more desired now.

The percentage that Boom Bucket receives is given from the agency's share. Photographers will receive the same percentages as before. If the end user price is significantly lower than the Dreamstime price (that you have agreed with), then an opt-out option will be available. If not, then such option will not be availabe. This is true for any partnership we make and I hope it answers your concerns.

This sounds more than fair to me. In fact, it's extremely generous. Thanks for addressing the concerns raised :-)
