Dreamstime Stock Footage?

Hey there Dreamstime contributors, buyers and admin.

I'm kind of new to the stock world but I have a question to ask. I've seen the current increase in stock footage requests and many footage agencies are starting to "pop up".. I'd like to know from:

Buyers: Is there need to implement stock footage to Dreamstime?

Contributors: Would you like to sell footage here?

Admin: Are there any views and ideas on the subject? Is there a chance of it happening?

That's all for now!
Thanks! :)

I still don't see a lot of use for RF video. You can't put a vid on a cup, a poster, a book or a commercial website. Anything that moves in a design detracts the attention and eats bandwidth. There is a great RM market for vid though, not so much RF. I've been doing vid when just out of college to help a friend which started a small production house that did travel vids for travel agencies. You need at least 2 people to do it, one for the cam and one for the sound. It's not enough to have a good cam. You need oil-damped tripods or shoulder mounts too; not to mention smooth travelings. That's a lot of money and resources to invest just for the microstock sales model.

Hey Fleyeing..

I understand your point of view and in parts I agree..

i'm just asking this because Dreamstime is the only, out of the 4 biggest Microstock Agencies, which doesn't sell stock footage.

Although it's a small and slow growing market, I think that Dreamstime might lose a few customers to those other websites.

Just my opinion... I don't know if its worth the effort and investment.

Just my 50 cents! :)

Hi have to agree with Daniel
Although it is NOT a small market - (micro) stock footage is selling like hot cakes.

As with the pic business, there are a lot of semi-professional videographers shooting truly excellent footage, also on their own. Audio is most of the time left out because of various reasons.

RF footage is being used for a broad spectrum of purposes, not limited to: broadcast, film, business presentations, festivals, personal videos et cetera

Yes, you need good equipment, but as with pics, good ones sell good

All in my humble opinion, by all means :)

I would love to upload stock footage. I'm more in videography than photography. With my job I get the opportunity to film a lot of amazing wildlife thoughout Africa. My problem is that bandwith is a problem. If ever DT decides to accept footage, I will make a plan to start uploading!

It's within the queue but there is no ETA to provide right now. You can use this time to create a strong collection. ;)

Has anybody any idea at all what kind of video sells and what a feasable clip length is? Wildlife, nature and time series are obvious subjects. Who would the customers be? I guess it'll be more the media than web sites. Will RF video be to Youtube what RF imagery was to Flickr?

Archilles, does a stock library of around 2000 sound like a reasonable start?

RF footage is -like footage- very diverse in its demand, and yes, supply.
Business like footage does sell extremely well, as are city landscapes, professions, models, oh well, you name it.

Normal clip length is between 7 and 30 seconds.

Nature landscapes and wildlife is not selling as good as previous mentioned, although I still get a fair amount of downloads from it.

It pays for the mortgage, and then some

Wow... I have about 60 clips I'm uploading on 4 agencies but 2000? That will take me ages to get there.. And I'll need a much better internet connection! With 60 I already have to snail mail my DVDs! Imagine 2000!!!

On another agencie i started with footage a bit earlier. I had about 250 images and 20 videos.. I made $300 from the images and around $200 from the videos so they do pay well...

I'm still looking for what sells best and a way to organise myself. Videos are complicated! LOL

I own a Canon HV-10 (HD amateur camera) and I'm getting the job done. When I get my 2000th clip online I'll prob have a much better camera! (I hope! :P)

Thanks for the info! It's always nice to know peoples opinions on certain subjects!

I just saw this thread and I would love dreamstime to start selling video.
I currently have about 400 clips, I keep them all at 15 seconds as that seems to be what editors want.
Video is a hot item right now. Televison news shows, websites etc., are buying them. I even had two of my clips recently bought by Dreamworks for an upcoming movie so even Hollywood is buying them.

Let us know when Dreamstime is thinking of selling.

Thanks,
Jake
