I just got an email from my local camera store today saying Canon was going to raise lens prices 5/1/08. Some boards had others getting a similar email. Possibly an adjustment due to the falling US $. It wasn't mentioned what kind of increase, but if someone (in the US) is planning on getting a lens soon, you might want to check out your purchase timing. Not to rush a purchase, because who knows what would happen, but I might prefer to not spend even $30-60 more a day later, for instance.
The email just mentioned lenses, so I wonder about that new camera body I was considering...

Everyone is raising prices, in every market from cameras to binoculars to blue jeans. It all has to do with the economy. It happens on a regular cycle. If you can't afford it, don't buy one until the prices go back down. I know people in the optics industry, and based on that plus my own experience I highly recommend just waiting a few months. When the economy levels back out prices will go back down.
Blame it on the banks and appraisers. If they hadn't gottan their egos up so high not long back, people wouldn't be foreclosing on their homes and our economy wouldn't be flirting with a recession. But, it happens. Just don't do anything rash and just hang on for another quarter or two. :) |
