Seem to have a problem with 'show me' threads?

I've heard of and seen first hand of forums being policed by the admin's and/or moderators but the dreamstime 'forum police' are really being quite ridiculous and petty on this subject IMHO.

Or is it the more seasoned contributors here that take offence to them?

To me it seems nothing more than a harmless bit of fun?

What's the views of everyone else on this. (Better hurry before they lock or delete this thread!)

LOL.

I was thinking the same thing.
That's why I post so infrequently here. What's the point - the thread will be closed.

As much as I don't like show me threads - do the forum uhhhhh.....adminstrators........really need to close everything?
Whew!!! That was close....I almost said something that would have been censored.

Now you know this thread will be closed, as it is not in a 100% positive light.

When there are almost only SHOW ME threads in general forum, I just hate it. One doesnt do much harm, but it always starts with one. I second closing SHOWME in this general forum.

I am sorry for saying so but I think show-me threads are a waste of time. I can imagine how many threads of such sort would proliferate if there was no control. Then the real issue threads would be just lost in the maze. That would make me avoid the forums completely. Not that I am a significant contributor to the forums in the first place. My two cents worth of course.

I find them irritating when they are on the main forums.... Maybe a dedicated "Show me" forum would help out.

Then you don't have to wade through all of the "show me your cat, dog, color yellow, blah, blah blah...." when you are just trying to find out pertinent information. :)

That sounds like an excellent idea Beckyabell. Maybe the admin's could do a poll or something to see if it would be popular? As I said in the original post I think they're no more than a bit of fun between contributors.

I dislike the show-me forums also, too silly (probably harmless but not very professional in my mind). Too many degenerate into conversations between a couple of people - better left to personal emails between the posters. I guess it all comes down to how the photographers here want to be regarded, as professionals, hobbyists, out for fun or ? Don't discount the many who skip the forums altogether as they never seem to offer help, just fluff. Visitors/buyers get a sense of what kind of site this is by the forums. Flickr is a better venue for some of the show me's.

I think the "Show me your" threads need their own separate place to post.

Your view is right. Some oldtimers must have noticed that I only answer the posts here I refrained from posting a new thread for the same reason.

I second that, Kenney! If they must be on the site, then make a special spot.

And I also agree with Red - Flickr is a better spot for such things. This site is dedicated to selling photos, not sharing them. Can't imagine that designers look at SHOW ME threads.

The "Show Me..." threads, as it was pointed out by several people already in this thread, are topics which are not of interest to many contributors and they can become irritating when one is looking for substantial information, such as announcements, problems experienced while working with the site, etc.

There are already several older Show Me threads which are left open. However, it is important that as members of a community each of us considers also the other people who visit, browse, and read through the site's various sections. Having more and more new Show Me threads can very fast lead to a flood on the boards.

If we allow this to happen, new users who are trying to find the answers of their questions on the boards will be obstructed; older users who try to follow the latest happening will be annoyed because of the extra time needed to browse the boards; and also - do not forget the admins - it does cost us time to find posts which need our attention, and important questions can get lost in the load of Show Me threads.

If you want comments on your photo by other people - as for criticism in the Positive Criticism board. If you simply want to tell someone else how much you liked their image or ask a question about it - leave a personal comment. If you're having thoughts concerning a certain stock topic and wish to share them - write a blog and include some images there - this way you can stir a much more useful discussion. If you are a new or relatively new user - browse the images on-line, check the blogs and boards, find the people with same or similar interests and strike a conversation with them.

You will find soon that such things will actually help you improve as a photographer and also get to know a lot more about stock from a different stand point. :)

Maybe we need something like the content filter for the forum: then you can decide on "show me your..." on/off :-)

This was discussed in a separate thread, which I cannot find right now, as there are tons of Show me threads. We can't even allow them in a single thread, as it would get confusing, each has its own "criteria". This kind of threads have no creative value. While we value your presence on the forums, please use this desire to post to find meaningful subjects, worthy to discuss to all members, newbies and experienced alike.
