PS: I do like the idea of a party checking relevancy on Dreamstime. That would make for a nice photo session. ;)posted in A fun challenge!

And your point being? Hallmark is not relevant for your photos. It is relevant for you, but not for users. Sorting for "most recent" is there for obvious reasons. It is furthest to relevant. Even in this case some words are OK. The most relevant sorting will take into account the score and leave out a photo with people at movies but no popcorn. Still, "popcorn" triggers "movies" for most people so it can be added without giving it a high relevancy score. It allows us to build around it, the AI for example may suggest relevant images. It is the third thread you start on the same subject. Aside of the obvious and blatant spam, don't worry about a keyword that is not really relevant, the search engine will not show those too soon. Or you can use the Keywords button under the Tools section (see item page). Or apply to work as a keymaster.

These threads pop up every month. If you go back you'll see exactly the same claims made in 2012 or even earlier, when the model was new and disruptive. This model is now almost 15 years old and the "main stream" for the industry. We try to be innovative and we try to reinvent ourselves through each feature we make. Unlike other agencies being independent means we have the freedom to test creative ideas no matter how risky they may seem. Being independent also means we can't invest without having a positive ROI. Comparing agencies is like comparing apples to oranges. Dreamstime doesn't have hundreds of millions of debt and still welcomes any photographer. It continues to pay the highest royalties in average (which means it has less money to advertise).Think about the number of contributors. We have at least twice more than our closest competitor. No matter that we like to brag about having the largest database of users, which translates in buyers too, they can't cope with the increase in content. If you divide the total number of downloads to more contributors the amount is smaller. Some make more than you, some make less. Fact is that happy contributors are very rare to post on the forums. Just like buyers, they are busy doing something else or simply don't want to say. I will not hide that since there are far more newer contributors than buyers and this means lower revenue for each of them and pressure on prices. That's the nature of economy and something Dreamstime can't change. The search engines' threat is also real, they distribute more illegal copies than all agencies combined. Imagine all movies being available on Google for free. Although the infringement is the same as for movies, contributors are not vocal enough in front of Google, Bing etc. Any small change for a license and contributors complain to the forums. But nothing on Google forums about their images being distributed for free. Forums are a very useful place, but complaining you have no sales will not bring them back. Do you want a tap on your shoulder or seeing other people are in the same position? That is good and healthy as long as afterwards you work harder to produce sales or to promote your portfolio. Dreamstime is a marketplace and we aim to provide you all tools you need to sell. Because you are part of a community, promoting it will also promote your portfolio (though through our referral program it happens even if you promote someone else images, which may be more attractive than yours).Ultimately, a business will pay based on how much time/effort you invest and how good you are. Our business is to produce as many downloads as possible and to ensure they are fairly distributed. You need to watch your portfolio as a business too.
More than 15 years ago, I've started my own revolution in design and photography. It was a bet I made with myself to see if passion can become a way of life. It has for me. Dreamstime is one of the world's leaders in stock photography, although it has started with an obsolete, now out-of-date digital camera and my modest collection of photos. But I pursued my dream and now Dreamstime, apart from being an agency and a business, is the largest gathering place for passionate photographer ... more
