3 Quick Tips to Market for More Downloads

1-Use social media well. This includes using the tools built into the various stock sites to automatically post updates, etc, but should go beyond that. Use social media tools to actually connect with your followers by offering things of value. This might include links to articles on photography techniques, retweets of great images, etc. When you offer more to people than self promotion, they will pay more attention to what you say.
2-Participate in the DT community. Read blogs to learn more about the art and business of photography. Share your knowledge in blogs of your own to help others along. Seek and give constructive criticism on the message board. Get to know your fellow photographers not as competitors but as collaborators that can help you learn and grow. As an example, I did not have a great marketing image to use for this article, so I am promoting someone else's. This helps both of us by getting attention and exposure for their image and my article.
3-Promote the work of others along with your own. One way to do this on Dreamtime is to establish collections. Keep them up to date. Your goal is for your collection to become a natural place for a designer to look for pictures on the featured topic. This is a good way to bulid relationships with other contributors, but keep your integrity and only select images that you think are great!
I'm sure you have some favorite marketing tips of your own, why not share them with all of us below?

Most important thing is to get your portfolio built up. This is a numbers game.

You make an excellent point, and one I struggle with a bit. How do we create valuable content for potential buyers when that's not really our field? You are welcome about the image-I thought it was perfect for the article.

I definitely agree with the latter part of your first point. You really need to create valuable content, rather than just self promotion. Nothing turns me off faster than an continual list of what someone just sold. I assume you have good content in your portfolio, so it shouldn't be surprising when it sells :) The tricky thing is to provide meaningful content for potential buyers. I think most of us know photography or illustrating, but neither of those topics is likely to interest actual buyers. Personally I have tried to create content for photographers - but realize that there is not much point in promoting my portfolio here to that crowd, and thus pretty much leave microstock out of it...
If I thought I could create useful content for buyers of my work, I definitely would ! Thanks for using my image, by the way :)

Thank you, Onfoot. I think the thing that might separate those who seek to give from those who seek to gain maybe that givers are more likely to believe both in their abilities and in the abudance around us. If we truly believe that we are worthy and that there is enough for all, giving becomes a natural way to live.

reckon ur right, Onfoot - well said and true! - useful information, Chanevy!

If we wanna gain something from someone, GIVING is the first thought, not GAINING. If everyone thinks like you, this world will be the happiest place in the universe. Great point Chanevy.

Good points and useful tips. Of course you need to have a decent sized portfolio also. No point in doing all of that marketing if you don't have any thing to point people to.
