Update on our cruise...

Our cruise from San Diego to Miami was a wonderful 15 days, and we had a nice long weekend at the end in South Beach, Miami. The photo opportunities were endless, and I've had a few selected already! Here they are:I haven't finished reviewing all the photos, and hopefully there will be more accepted. It was a wonderful trip, and we had pretty good weather. The transit of the canal was unfortunately a rainy day but I'm working on some submissions that may make the cut.... continue reading

We are going on a cruise!

The highlight of the trip comes next:a full transit of the Panama Canal. That will take all day.then back home again.I'm sure I'll have tons of photos, and hopefully at least a few will be accepted here! continue reading

Free image experiment

In the last couple weeks I have examined my portfolio and designated several images as free. They were all more than 1 year old, and had no downloads.I've been surprised at the result. For example, the image to the right had less than 50 views after having been in the portfolio more than a year.I designated it as FREE just today. As of this writing, it already has 10 uploads and 140 views. The Paestum image is one of several in my portfolio.I decided to make this one free because... continue reading

This image is my first level 2!Exciting to have reached that plateau. And, it is also the first image where the designer wrote to say how the image was used.Very thoughtful of him, and gratifying for me.Other milestones are looming as well... I am very close to my first $100 payout.50 downloads (total) should be achieved during this month. And I just crossed over the 200 upload mark, with 215 in my portfolio now.Things are beginning to make more sense! My eye is better trained and... continue reading

Yet another attempt at maintaining a personal blog...

I'm going to try again at blogging.Several times I've set up sites but haven't kept them up.But perhaps the time has come.My new site is:A Normal Life. The focus will be on personal experience, and provides access to my Flickr photostream, references back here to Dreamstime, and gives me a place to put all the many links that I read daily or weekly.Maybe this will save me some time!:) continue reading

Destinations I dream of…

Top 10 Places I want to visit, in no particular order:1.MadagascarThe flora and fauna of this large island are fascinating, and fast disappearing.2.New ZealandThe landscape of The Lord of the Rings, green and gorgeous.3.AustraliaWild kangaroos and big flocks of cockatoos – you can’t see them anywhere else in the world.4.Panama CanalManmade wonder of the world.5.Trans-Siberian RailwayNot really a place, more of a journey across history and culture.6.The Ice... continue reading

An auspicious day!

Today I reached 100 uploads, and coincidently, also 10 sales. This has been a long and sometimes frustrating road!Along the way I have learned that stock photography is quite a different beast from travel or just "pretty" shots. My natural tendency towards subtle muted lighting isn't very compatible with stock apparently! It is fitting that this 100th upload is a background shot of asbestos shingles.Backgrounds have been my most successful acceptance category, although not my most successful... continue reading

Political Convention

I was an participant in the recent local Democratic convention. The process in Texas is strange and almost impossible to explain (which is why one of the resolutions voted on was whether or not to retain it).In short, some delegates are awarded to candidates based on the popular vote, and some are awarded based on the a precinct convention of delegates held after the primary. I was an alternate this year, and thus attended the convention for my senate district.Regardless of political persuasion,... continue reading

South Padre Island

Although widely known as a Spring Break destination, South Padre Island is a great little beach resort any time.We go as often as possible. The island forms a barrier between the Gulf of Mexico and the Laguna Madre, a wide flat bay.The island is amazingly long, and protects much of southern Texas from the direct effects of the ocean waves. The beach itself, of course, is amazing.I never get tired of walking on it.The sand is very fine, soft, and a light beige/tan color. In the... continue reading

New collection: Namibia - Jewel of Southern Africa

Lately I've gotten hooked on making collections (it's all Charles' fault!).I was surprised to find that there was no definitive collection of Texas photos, so I created The Great State of Texas collection a few weeks ago.Since I have lived in several parts of Texas over the last 18 years, I have some idea of the amazing scope of the state.Another favorite place of mine is Namibia.Formerly known as Southwest Africa, the country is a wonderland of desert, wildlife, mineral riches,... continue reading
