Friends,I've been submitting photos for several years now. But now I find myself on the other side of the table, so to speak. In addition to my photography work, I've also been writing an novel based on some fascinating events in the Korean War. I found myself needing a map of North & South Korea - and had not found just what I wanted. So, I posted a message on the Dreamstime forums. A nice person replied that she would make the map just as I wanted it. She did, uploaded it, and it was approved.... continue reading
I've been working in NYC for the past few weeks and was pleased to be able to attend the NY International Auto Show. Here's a few pics that I was able to submit to Dreamstime as editorial images. I'm pleased with the results. continue reading
Just got back from a photo shoot in Colorado - specifically, the Rocky Mountain National Park.Thought I'd share a few images of the fantastic fall colors, and the very impressive Elk Rut that takes place at this time of year. The Elk pictures were greatly aided with the acquisition of the Canon EF 100-400mm lens. I had heard good things about this lens - but you never know for sure. Fortunately, I was blown away. Standing in some cases 50-75 feet away, the lens is so sharp that I was actually... continue reading
I just recently hit $2000 in sales. I'm grateful to all the buyers that have found my work useful. Many of you are reading this and are just starting out. My message is simple: keep shooting, keep learning, keep growing.Virtually every time I go out to shoot - I learn something new. Sometimes I learn things and I wonder why I didn't realize these truths earlier. But, we keep learning and growing.Don't let rejections discourage you. Use the rejections as motivation to grow and learn. Don'... continue reading
Spent the weekend in Dallas with the family. Went to a Texas Rangers game. Was able to get this image approved as an editorial image.Earlier in the day however, I stopped by the new Cowboy Stadium. Was also able to get this approved as an editorial image. Decided to try the expanded ISO range of my Canon 5D Mark II and use ISO 50. ISO 50 lowers the already very low noise of the 5dM2 and I think I'm a fan of it already. Then, on Sunday morning at 4 am I was awakened... continue reading
Friends,I posted last week that I was stuck on the island of Majorca in the Mediterranean due to the volcano in Iceland. What an interconnected world:I live in Texas. I flew to Paris on business. I then flew to Barcelona to continue my business. I was changing planes en route to Munich, with a final destination of London. So I got to spend a nice week on a beautiful island. I told my friends that the island belongs to Spain, the tourists are mostly German, the beaches are sandy white, the... continue reading
You may remember that Google had a very clever ad during the Superbowl. It consisted of following a person's searches on Google as they found love in Paris. Now, you can create your own "seach stories." I started wondering, what would happen if I did a search story based on Dreamstime?See what you think.Approve or disapprove? My Dreamstime Search Storydw continue reading
I was travelling in Europe on business. I tried to leave Barcelona yesterday evening (Friday) to Munich. My flight took me first to Palma Mallorca with a change on planes on Air Berlin, final destination Munich.Because of the volcano problem, I was only able to get as far as Palma Mallorca. So, I'm stuck here for perhaps a few days. But, my philosophy is that when volcanoes give you ash, make photos. As long as I'm stuck here - I'm trying to create some nice photos that might have potential... continue reading
Fellow DT'ers... I'm celebrating my 1000th sale. By many standards, my progress has been slow... a bit over 3 years. But - for all of you that are just getting start, I share this advice: keep taking great pictures. Persistence is a great method for refining your skills. Here's the photo that made the 1000th sale.... its a photo that I was never sure would even be approved and almost didn't submit. Wouldn't that have been a pity. To date it has racked up 44 sales.Let that be a lesson too.... continue reading
