As if I care :-)

So in the next few days I'll be in the beautiful land of Tonga.Taking photos and not giving a care for those who live in their own little world, making their own little misguided rules in their own dreary little jobs - nowhere people in nowhere land - as the Beatles would say. There's not too many images of Tonga. Oh it's just another beach some will say. So are many of my best selling photos. Just a beach was said for those too!So have fun while I'm away because I certainly... continue reading

Save a penguin. ( :-) )

I'm fully supportive of Dreamstime removing old images that have not had any sales after 4 years, I think that's the right thing to do and have quite happily dealt with my old images. But today one of my favourites comes up for its last thirty days. The image is from Deception Island, Antarctica and despite the 100,000 to 200,000 penguins in the colony, this little one stood out as they almost 'stood guard' watching us humans arrive on the beach.I share this in the hope some buyer takes a liking... continue reading

Unrequited love

Some of my favourite photos sell really well and some I don't expect would do well also do well. Once I put up a photo of an Eland and it sold within a few days. That somebody out there wanted an Eland (a type of antelope) amazed me. Which is why I think we should never second guess the market. But here's my images that have not sold and to be honest I think people are missing out. Unrequited love so to speak. Now I delete some images that don't sell and after I while I think... continue reading

Keywording

For a while I have considered having some images re-keyworded. Today I decided I would choose an image I thought had good potential and experiment so I clicked re-keyword. Quickly my account was decremented the 60 cents - fair enough. But then I get a message - Pending line for keymasters is extremely busy, please try again later or use the regular upload for submitting this image. - There is no option for me to - try again later - and so get my money back until I do try again, and this now begs the... continue reading

The Genius of Photography - BBC

I bought the DVD "The Genius of Photography", a BBC documentary the other day and have started watching it. Very interesting. I have seen another documentary DVD on the LIFE magazine photographers. I think that will be the next to get after watching this one. continue reading

Fake profiles and spam

There seems to be more fake profiles and spam occurring of late. Not sure why but unfortunate and I certainly encourage everyone to report them. Do wish I had a grumpy face photo but a nice photo of a gorilla (which are lovely animals) is the best I can do.Kind regards,Derek. continue reading

New trip, new camera

New trip to the far ends of the Earth coming up and new camera too. Compared to my previous cameras this is very snazzy. So looking forward to my holidays. Test shots so far look great, can't wait for the real work. The included shot one from my last holiday and one of the most photogenic (man-made) places I've seen (out of 50 countries so far). continue reading

Always amazing what sells

I'm always amazed at what images sell. This week I made two sales, one of an image I really like:and one of an image from a set that I had a good debate with editorial staff on:Indeed my images from Western Samoa have done really well, which is pleasing as several were initially rejected based on "too many similar things in the database" i.e. island scenes, even though as I succesfully argued, there were at the time very few images from Western Samoa and I personally always... continue reading
