Bodywork

Tomorrow I'm having a deep tissue treatment with an "intuitive" healer. I've been living with an injury I sustained about 4 months ago while transitioning from a bound lunge into a bound triangle. These last three weeks I finally stopped going to class and focused my yoga practice on cooling the injured leg and that has made a big improvement. Hopefully tomorrows experience will completely release whatever happened there. I'm also looking forward to someone focusing all their energy on me. I am feeling... continue reading

Sleeping Beauty

We are waking from infinite layers of dream, only to find we are waking from a new dream. Dreams lost in realization, dreams slipped away in time, dreams shattered by alarm bells... There is nothing to leave behind in the sacred process of disillusionment. Awake. continue reading

Narcissism

:As I was writing this blog entry mostly what I feel is how boring and dreary the subject is... because narcissists are so limiting and negative despite their unending efforts to appear otherwise. I see that there are real people out there doing joyful things together and I want to be part of that. Life is vitality. There is so much richness to experience in this life.I've studied cluster B personality disorders not only because it was relevant to my personal life but also because psychology... continue reading

Listen: Inner Nature

This is my favorite image from the shoot I did with Elise. We were out near Indian Cove in Joshua Tree National Park and the weather was perfect. I am really beginning to understand natural light; it's so simple when you can capture it. And my D700 is !!!!. I'm still blown away by that sensor and it's ability to perform in low light. This image of her was taken post sunset 800 ISO wide open with my beloved Nikkor 50MM 1.4. We worked all afternoon though, so there's a lot more images. Elise's creativity... continue reading

Chakra Art

I have been working on an image for Health and Spirituality Magazine. The article is about the flow of the chakras, not the traditional map, so this image was not accepeted. (Argh). I'm glad this image happened anyway... now that I've taken a long break! Each one of these illustrations takes around 12 solid hours in front of the computer... I go a little mad::: In between the 2/3 hrs work sessions, I'm doing yoga, calligraphy practice, and housework to keep my own chakras flowing. And I want very... continue reading

Yoga Photography

I was reminded on this trip just how much I enjoy photographing people practicing asanas. Yoga Flow, in Tucson, was a beautiful space designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, but it posed a number of photographic challenges. The circular shape of the space was lovely, and it had skylights and windows all around, but many of the materials used for the interior were industrial and not very photogenic. It was winter and the sun was at a low angle so the natural light, which most likely floods the... continue reading

For USA Copyright Holders-Orphan Works Bill

Orphan Works Bill...Call your Senators and Congress person to ask them to vote no on both the House ofRepresentatives bill and the Senate bill. Both bills are way too broad and seriously limit an artist's right to protect their own work. Even the House bill, which is being touted as the better bill, puts the onus on the artist to register their images twice, with the Copyright Office and with a newly developed Orphan Works registry, in order to not be considered an Orphan or "abandoned" Work.... continue reading

Yoga: Compass Pose Variation

"Three thousand years ago yoga started with one meditative pose, Easy Lotus. The word asana originally meant "meditative posture". Then the masters introduced Cobra Pose to keep the spine flexible. In their quest for physical health they developed the eight most important poses to insure the health of the body and the glands. From there it grew. Even today dozens of new poses are created each year by true yogis all over the world. There are many different schools, each with their own variations, but... continue reading
