The Real Illusion

My love for photography started at the age of fourteen when I edited some existing photos that were already on my computer. Eventually I took my father’s compact digital camera and photographed flowers, landscapes and wildlife. I also did some self-portraits from time-to-time. It wasn't until I was halfway through my first year as a performance arts student in 2009 however, that I realised I actually wanted to be a photographer instead of an actress.Photography is so much more than just capturing... continue reading

Memorable Moments

Since she took her first breath and became part of our family, my niece has been one of the greatest joys in our lives. She went from having dark brown hair to the most beautiful blonde locks. And those blue eyes of her are enough to make anyone’s heart melt. Yes, she is indeed my favourite little model. But having said that, she is also the hardest model to photograph due to her lively personality and stubbornness! She has her own strong little will and is definitely not interested in being bossed... continue reading

Africa's Gentle Giants

I was never really a big fan of elephants. Their size and tusks terrified me! Whenever my family and I went camping at the Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape, I used to quickly drive past the elephant bulls just in case they were in musth and I didn’t notice. Then during our trip in the summer of 2011 we saw a young elephant bull with a broken leg. Apparently he was in a fight with another bull a couple of weeks before when this incident happened. We saw him almost every day.On... continue reading

Facing My Fears

Since I was little girl, my parents took my sister and I on regular camping trips to the Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Province, South Africa. My dad volunteered as a ranger, which meant that he had to be on duty every other weekend to make sure that all the guests visiting the national park were behaving accordingly. Alas, this was not always the case... People were often found wondering outside their vehicles in areas where this was – and still is – prohibited! This basically means... continue reading

Those Random Moments

A couple of months ago my parents and I visited Steytlerville, a very small town in the heart of the Karroo. It was extremely cold, but our weekend was wonderful! The food was amazing, the entertainment was great and the company was absolutely delightful. On our way back home to Port Elizabeth, my mom spotted an old bus stop. There were dilapidated buildings all around it which gave this place such character! My mom immediately told my dad to stop and jumped out of the bakkie as soon as he did.... continue reading

Flower Blossom

The first day of spring has finally arrived here in our beautiful country, South Africa. We had an abundance of rain during June and July which has been such a blessing! Our dams are overflowing once again for the first time in years. Hopefully the rain will continue to fall over our entire country during the months of spring and summer this year as well as next year. I do, however, look forward to warmer months ahead after an exceptionally cold winter. What I am most looking forward to is the... continue reading

A Majestic and Beautiful Country

Several months ago, my family and I embarked on an adventurous journey from our home next to the beach in Port Elizabeth, to the beautiful landscapes in Mpumalanga. The road was long and tiring, but the scenery was breathtaking and just made me realise once again, how beautiful our country is! After resting in Bethlehem and Sabie over a period of two nights, we finally arrived at our designated destination – the Kruger National Park. As a photographer who is passionate about nature and wildlife,... continue reading
