Portfolio milestone - 2000 images online

Whilst quality is important as well as quantity it is always nice to pass a significant milestone. My latest batch of images from the Tentertainment music festival did just that taking my portfolio to 2005 images. For those of you just starting out and with only a few images online just stick with it -adding new images when you can. Whether you go for a diverse range of images or thoroughly explore a subject you know well is up to you but the one certain thing is that images you never upload will... continue reading

Hastings pier set to re-open

I have written before about our historic Victorian pier here in Hastings in East Sussex, England. Opened in 1872, the pier was closed some years ago due to safety concerns and later devasted by fire in October 2010.With funding from the Lottery Heritage Fund and money raised from the public, rebuilding work has been taking place over the last few years with the grand re-opening now hopefully taking place in April 2016.Much work has been carried out to strengthen the iron sub structure. Wooden... continue reading

1000 downloads (with a bullet)

For sometime I have been anticipating being able to post about reaching my 1000th download here on Dreamstime. With around 950 downloads I had expected that this post would still be a while in coming. However, all that changed last Sunday (yes, a Sunday!) when I checked my sales figures to find some 54 new downloads all in one day. With a bullet indeed :)What had sold (obviously to the same buyer) were virtually all my B/W archive images of British rock bands from 1978/1979. Back then I used... continue reading

Lipsi, Photography and Me

Back in the Seventies and Eighties I used to be a professional press photographer -mainly concentrating on politicians and other public figures (many of which now feature in my portfolio here). Eventually, I changed careers and moved on from photography -even selling my set of film cameras (two Olympus OM1 SLRs and a medium format Mamiyaflex).Moving forward to the 2000s saw me start to visit small Greek islands where my photography was just limited to holiday snaps using a one-use disposable film... continue reading

Shoreham airshow crash

Readers of my previous blog on airshow photography will know that I enjoy photographing aviation subjects and always try and get to an airshow each year. This year I was set to go to the Airbourne airshow at Eastbourne but bad weather on the day I was going led to the cancellation of all flying. The excellent Dunsfold airshow which I attended last year was out as I wasn't free to go that weekend. This really only left the annual airshow at Shoreham-on-Sea in my area. This became a must see event when... continue reading

Look to the skies - Airshow Photography

Now that the Autumn has arrived here in the UK it marks the end of the airshow season. Don't get me wrong, I am not a plane spotter but I do enjoy visiting and photographing airshows. Probaly my childhood spent growing up under the flight path of London Gatwick Airport sparked my interest. It was always facinating to see the airliners making their approach and, though I hate to admit it, many of them still had propellers back then! These days most UK airshows tend to have a good mix of classic... continue reading

Eastbourne pier -Another fire disaster

Back in October 2010 I posted here about the tragic fire that destroyed much of the historic Victorian pier here in Hastings.History has recently repeated itself with fire destroying a portion of the pier at Eastbourne -some 17 miles along the East Sussex coastline.Breaking out around 3.00pm on Wednesday July 30, the fire was initially reported as being a small in nature but soon developed into a major incident with fire crews from around East Sussex attending aided by the RNLI lifeboats... continue reading

The beautiful small islands of Greece

Having just returned from a wonderful two week holiday on the small Greek island of Paxos (images coming soon) I thought I would share some images from the various islands I have visited and photographed over the last few years. What is it that draws me to these islands?Certainly the hot and sunny Mediterranean weather appeals to me -such a contrast to the often cold and wet climate we have here in the UK. That said, this year I arrived in the middle of a violent storm so severe that our plane... continue reading

500 downloads milestone

Just had my download number 500 here at Dreamstime. It's been getting close for a while but a sudden flurry of sales in January got me there.I'm pleased to say that it was one of my best selling images - the Tentertainment music festival held annually at Tenterden in Kent, England. This weekend long festival acts as a showcase for a host of (mainly) local up and coming bands and always provides great photographic opportuntities -as well as a fun day out.Looking at the picture just has me longing... continue reading

Hastings pier - set to rise from the ashes

Back in October 2010 I posted about the devasting fire which had destroyed most of the Victorian pier here in Hastings.Great news this week when the charitable trust hoping to restore the pier was awarded £11.4 million towards the £13.9 million needed from the Heritage Lottery Fund. There is still some money to raise but, all being well, work should start in Spring 2013 with completion in late 2014.The original 1872 substructure remained intact after the fire and a newly designed upper structure... continue reading
