How do you remember all of the specific places you have captured?

I have the perfect and i think easiest solution to this question. As many of us take lot's of pictures and then have to sort through them, it is important that we capture the specific details of our photo shoots. For example, i have traveled to many places within China in a short period of time so it's hard to remember the names of everything i have taken pictures of which are needed for keywording correctly later when the images are finally uploaded. Since being in China i have taken over... continue reading

Keep your horizons flat

Since anyone with a decent digital camera can contribute to stock photography, many people don't have the formal training or experience for taking professional grade pictures. To help you, one simple step can greatly enhance the quality of your images and make them more attractive to a larger customer base. Please keep your horizons flat. While the earth is not flat and you may have some curvature, please do you best to make it even on both sides of the image. In some cases this means making... continue reading

How and why to manage a collection?

As you will find on the dreamstime website, managed collections are groups of pictures with a similar theme. They can be something simple as Food or Editorials or Backgrounds, textures.Or can be very specific as Recognizable Landmarks. The choice of what to add is left up to the creator and their thoughts of what may be needed or researched by buyers.   Having a minimum of five contributors as specified by dreamstime will allow the managed collection to become visible on the site.... continue reading

How do we know what type of pictures are needed?

That is the million dollar question and albeit not an easy one to answer. It has been a while since I last wrote a blog article.I am not one to write about stuff that does not provide other contributors with useful information, suggestions or tips.I have spent the last year in Shanghai China and have used this opportunity to increase my portfolio with a number of pictures from Asia.   As we all have gone through a change in the way we take pictures from an artistic perspective to... continue reading

Increasing exposure to your images

I will give my perspective on social media sites and increasing visibility to your images. While we all know that more views does not actually lead to more sales, using social media will get your images out on the web.Take for example, Twitter, if you tweet your image and it is re-tweeted to others (ie. followers of your followers), this may lead to a sale.As you are followed on Twitter by people, this may lead to more followers, increasing your exposure.I have taken a lot of Buddhism based... continue reading

Travels around Asia Increasing the diversity of a portfolio

While in the past I have written blogs that help provide some thought provoking subjects to help the photographer look at things differently or to offer an engaging topic, this time, however, my article will look at the beauty and uniqueness of Asia. For those in the western world who have not been to Asia, each country is quite unique in their food, culture, people and architecture. The one commonality between them is these cultures and countries are different from the West. While some can say... continue reading

Many have asked, What makes a good editorial image? What are examples of good editorial images? What rules govern editorial images? How easy is it to get editorial’s approved on Dreamstime? And so on…First of all, what is not an editorial image?Images that contain model released people, property released architecture, generic items that cannot be tied back to a company logo, trademark, or corporation, buildings with generic features and the list goes on.Editorials, as one would... continue reading

Nothing but editorials

One of the easiest ways to sell pictures of people doing things is to submit them as an editorial image because you don't need a model release when used in this context. The alternative is to arrange for a model and set up planned shots.Sometimes, this creates an image that does not feel as real as a candid shot taken of an knowing or unknowing subject doing something naturally.Unfortunately in the later case, most of the time you are not going to secure a model release from people who... continue reading
