A couple of years ago somebody showed me some pictures of macro photography. They looked interesting, however, it did not resonate with me. Now, many years later, I read some booksand looked at videos on Youtube. It turns out that macro photography is a lot more than taking pictures of plants and insects and laying on the ground. So, there was a growing interest. After realising that my regular lenses would not suffice, I looked at possible cheap adjustments:- close-up filters are put on a regular... continue reading

As you can see, I have some experience with photoshoots with models, so I thought that product photography was easy.Last week my daughter asked me to take some pictures of crocheting she makes and sells via her Etsy webshop, DC crochet Design. She was facing some shortcomings of smartphones to do product photography. So, yesterday I grabbed my equipment and turned one of our bedrooms into a small photo studio. I have done something similar before so the first steps were easy.-... continue reading
Last week I was surprised by four niche sales of the city Zwolle, no subscriptions, fully paid. Most of you probably don't even know where Zwolle is located.Like most of you I have architectural pictures of London and Paris. Dreamstime has plenty of pictures of these famous cities. Resulting in very few sales for me. I sell more pictures of for example Beijing and Machu Picchu. The reason is probably that it is more difficult to go there. The same is true for Zwolle, few people... continue reading
In 2014 I visited Yellow Mountain. With the fog hanging between the peaks of the mountains it looks like a fairy tale. This week another two of the Yellow Mountain pictures were sold. In total 35+. I wrote a post about my visit to Yellow Mountain:First, four hours by bus from Hefei to Zhaixicun, then by cable car through a thick layer of fog. Fifty meter before arriving at the terminal station of the cable car the fog disappeared and suddenly it was a sunny day. Yellow... continue reading
The Dutch Railways realises that railway stations form an important part of the center of cities. I guess that is one of the reasons that the architecture of the railway stations is regarded as extremely important. Rotterdam Central Station is no exception. It was officially opened in March 2014. A year later I took this picture. It is one of my best selling pictures, especially in 2015. The most recent sales was this week. Here the original picture, it was taken with my Nikkor 16-35mm... continue reading
The colourful sky is one of the most fascinating scenes to take a picture of. Quite often people start to shoot too early, resulting in a very dominating orange ball called the sun. I prefer to start when the sun is almost disappearing behind the horizon. Then the sky and the sun are in balance and the clouds in the sky get an orange backlight. The above picture was taken at roughly 22:00 hours at the end of May along the coast of Noordwijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. Right at the time... continue reading
Basically I am not very fond of tripods. On rare occasions you need one and still you have to carry them around all the time. Another reason for not liking them is the lack of flexibility in positioning the camera (for example, horizontal or vertical, or the position I want to take). So, I never take a tripod with me.Coming back from Xi'an in China I noticed that in the hall of the Terracotta Army quite a few pictures had an ISO value of 6400 or close to it. And that the Shutter Speed I choose... continue reading
While walking on the City Wall of Xi'an I noticed that there were quite a few groups doing communal activities. Such as gymnastic exercises as you can see above. However, playing music and singing is also very popular. In the evening, on the squares of Xi'an, you will find a large number of groups dancing. I have been told that to join a group you have to come every evening. And each group comes early to make sure that have a nice spot on the square. It was shame that it was too dark... continue reading
During my trip to visit 4 Chinese universities, I had the opportunity to visit the Terracotta Army near Xi'an, some 50 km outside the city. It is incredible to imagine that these terracotta soldiers date back to roughly 200 BC, and were only discovered as recent as 1974.It is very difficult to take high quality pictures there, because of the light and the place is really crowded (no space for a tripod). Please read the post on my photoblog to know more about my visit to... continue reading
Today 10 images were sold making a 400+ total! All images were taken in the Huaraz region in Peru: 3 images of Laguna Querococha, 3 images of Laguna Llanganuco, and 4 images of Chavin de Huantar.During the summer of 2015 we visited quite a few places in Peru I had visited in 1982 for the first time. Huaraz was one of them, and although I had visited Peru several times since, I never went back to Huaraz on these occasions.Maybe not as famous as Machu Picchu, I really love that region. Below... continue reading
