Maybe for many of my fellow photographers 1000 images is already a milestone of the past. It is for me now as well. It is however an important milestone as it took me about 8 years to reach it. According to my current production rates, it will take about the same amount to double my portfolio size.1000 images in my portfolio does not necessary mean 1000 images are available for sale. About 80 images (8%) among these are distributed through the free section. This percentage went lower during last... continue reading

It’s about one month since we have passed into the New Year. 2011 was the best year yet on Dreamstime, and I will soon celebrate 8 years of collaboration. The growth was overall below my expectation on the beginning of the year, but it is still there despite the many economic problems our world is facing.Image productionI have closed the year a little under the production target for 2011 – 113/120. 95% of them were accepted by Dreamstime (107), which represent around 13% increase in portfolio... continue reading
2010 was one of my best years of growth in photography business. I thought I should share with you some of my numbers in this blog post. Before that, you should know that I do mostly travel photography although I am also interested in the macro-world of plants. The travel images I produce are exclusively made using HDR technique. I used a Canon 500D with a set of 3 EF-S lenses (normal zoom, wide angle and a fixed macro). A few days ago, I have upgraded to Canon 60D, and in the next months I am planning... continue reading
I have the pleasure of announcing my first photography exhibition soon to start at EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland. From 21st September until 29th October a selection of about 16 of my photographs printed on canvas will be displayed at the ELA Cafeteria (search for ELA010 on http://plan.epfl.ch). The title of the exposition is “Magic Hour”, an expression used by outdoor photographers to refer to the time of day when the photographs were taken: shortly after and before sunset. This is my first step... continue reading
I am very trilled to announce the launch of my new web-site (www.bogdanlazar.ro) dedicated fully to travel photography, a project that has been in my mind for almost a year now. As many of you have already a web-site to present yourself and your work and if not, I am sure you are considering investing into one; I thought to be useful to make a blog about my experience and to open in this way a discussion about such a necessary thing for photographers. From the beginning I was interested in having... continue reading
A few weeks ago I have stumbled upon an newspaper article (Le Temps in Switzerland or at least in the french speaking part of Switzerland) which I believe is worth discussing here. The swiss authorities had previously found that a image of the mighty Matterhorn (located at the border between Switzerland and Italy, with the famous side facing only Switzerland) was used by a German travel agency to advertise a travel package in the mountains of Austria. Further more, a German chain of supermarket... continue reading
My interest in HDR photography is growing. I started venturing into this field at the end of last year, and the first experiments were reported in a previous blog post (link). Since then I have managed to sharpen my technique and managed to produce sell-able results, much to my initial surprise.I use Photomatix software for HDR processing. As my camera limits the number of bracketing exposure to 3, I am only using 3 differently exposed images in generation the HDR file. To decide upon the exposure... continue reading
Since the last camera upgrade last year (details here), I've been experimenting with the HDR techniques. My previous cameras did not have the exposure auto-bracketing function, and this function was one of the reasons why I have decided to buy a Canon 450D.HDR comes from Higy Dynamic Range images and refers to images having a greater dynamic range of luminance between the light and darker part of a scene than normal photography techniques. Its intention is to more accurately render the wide range... continue reading
Just last week, I have brought my first DSLR camera: a Canon EOS 450D with the default objective EFS 18-55mm. For the last 4-5 years I have used compact cameras to create stock photos, and since they managed to pay for themselves, I've decided that it was the time to pass on the next level. I this article I will try to present my feelings on this transition.I've started my path into the photography world while doing my master studies in Tokyo, Japan. It was for the first time I've purchased myself... continue reading
With a elevation of 4'478m (14'692 ft), Matterhorn is the most famous mountain in Europe. Situated in the European Alps, at the border between Switzerland and Italy, it has in fact two names. To the north (Switzerland) and the most part of the world is known as Matterhorn, while on the south slopes (Italy) is referred to it as Mount Cervino. However, Matterhorn is quite far from being highest in Europe or in the European Alps. The north and east faces oriented towards Switzerland are the most dramatic,... continue reading
