Beginning a Collection

I know that some old hands on Dreamstime are very familiar with collections, but I have just discovered this feature and created my first collection.

As I was searching Dreamstime, I realized that it is much easier to find images of Christian houses of worship than images of sites and buildings representing other religious traditions. As a college instructor in world religions, I thought it might be helpful for users to have a collection of houses of worship from different faith traditions. And so:

I encourage everyone with images of houses of worship from around the world to add to this collection. I know there are some terrific images out of there of temples, mosques, gurdwaras, shrines. . .

I'm not sure why the photos didn't come through... just do a search on Paestum and you will see the photos. There aren't very many.

Hi Charles... I've got several shots of the temples at Paestum that been accepted, which you might consider for your collection:

This one isn't mine, but I do think it would fit:

I have already gone to see this series of yours, a group of very beautiful pictures. On DT, I have some pictures of Chinese temple too.

Hello there! I am new to collections, too, and so I am sure there's a lot that I don't know yet. However, I believe that only the creator of a collection can add photos. If you have photos you would like me to add to my collection, please just send me their ID numbers, and I will be happy to add them.

Once you have created a collection, you can add photos to it simply by viewing the photo, then choosing 'Tools.' Under there, you will find an option to 'add to collection.' I think that's the way it works. . . There might be other ways to add photos to a collection, too, but, as I said, I am a newbie myself.

I hope this helps--and do send me your ID numbers! Charles

Hi! I am new to this collection thing. Can you please tell me how you can list photos to your collection. I have just created one collection, but I canĀ“t figure out how to add more photos? How can I list my photos in your collection?

Zazzle is a site where you can design products using your pictures, and offer them to the internet marketplace. The quality is good, at least on the paper items. I've created calendars and stamps and cards, and ordered them for myself. Not sure about the t-shirts or mugs, etc. since I haven't done anything with them. What I really like is the ability to make just one of an item, or 12, or 5... and that you can add text to a photo. Really customizable. Anyway, I created a stamp of the orange monarch butterfly shot and it sold. and I made $1.14 on it, which is twice what I made from Dreamstime so far.

Looking forward to the South Padre shots!

What is Zazzle? I'm not familiar with that.

Still only one download... but life in general is wonderful. Spring is coming to Texas so there will be some good flower opportunities. And we should be going down to the island soon so I can get some more South Padre shots.

As for uploads, my goal for now is to get to 50 accepted.

Oh - and I finally sold something on Zazzle! :)

Sounds like a good strategy to me.

How are things going in general for you? Uploads? Sales? Life?

I'm not sure of the etiquette involved... I assumed it would be OK since this is a fairly simple definition for a collection. Either it was taken in Texas, or it wasn't... other than that I just picked the photos I liked best, that fit my vision of Texas.

My method was to use the search keyword "texas" and then just work my way through. First I used the descending download order, and then tried the ascending upload order to pick up the new stuff. But mostly I just picked the ones I liked. Interestingly I ended up with several from the same photographers.

Excellent! I'll look forward to seeing this collection grow.

Here's my question: Did you invite the photographers to join, or include their images, then send a note? I'm just not sure how this is done. All advice is welcome!

Inspired by your collection, I thought about what collection I would really love to curate. And The Great State of Texas collection was born. Surprisingly there was no collection (as far as I could tell) devoted to the state. Anyway - it took me a while to figure out how to add a photo but I did figure it out. If you look at an image, there is a tab called "Tools". There you can send a comment to the photographer, add to a lightbox, or add to a collection. I sent a courtesy email to the photographer as well. Kinda fun! :) Thanks for piquing my interest. And also thanks for the church interiors idea - that is definitely another area of interest for me.

AmyEmilia, what about a collection of church interiors? You have the seeds of a fine collection on that topic, and I imagine there would be a great deal of designer interest.

Here is one thing I don't understand. Maybe others can jump in. If I create a collection is it OK to add others' images to it? I have seen many terrific photos that would fit within my non-Christian houses of worship collection, but I don't know if it's OK within Dt policy and etiquette to include others' work. Any thoughts on this?

I've been thinking about collections too... just haven't decided what to focus on. This is a good one! Too bad I have nothing in my portfolio to contribute. But I'll review my backlog of unsubmitted shots to see what might suit and then run the DT acceptance gauntlet.
