Body parts in photography
Conceptual photography can be taken to the next level by introducing human body parts to the final image.
"Human body parts!" I hear you scream.
Yes, human body parts!
I usually perform my own stunts when it comes to body parts, which include pulling strange faces in the mirror for different facial expressions etc, taking photos of my limbs, and using individual body members in images like eyes, hands, arms and feet!
Introducing body parts into conceptual photography can really breath life into an image, and make them stand out to drive home a unique conceptual idea!
In an image that sold recently (photo below) which was taken of our lovely british shorthair cat sleeping, using photoshop, I inserted my wide open eye (yes my eye) into the sleeping cat to give her a surreal human look to the final finish, and really to exaggerate an expression.
Human body parts are also a great way to personify inanimate lifeless objects; to give it human form to drive home or illustrate a particular point or subject, it brings life to the form to express actions, feelings, emotions etc.
Many successful images that sell online which relate to conceptual ideas contain human body parts!
Important to remember is to keep images simple and straightforward, do not clutter your image, otherwise the focus or intended purpose will be lost with too much visual information...the simpler the better is the golden rule!
Why not try it yourself...it's great fun...it's challenging and it certainly creates a unique image which businesses and professionals love to buy into to sell their products.
