Bought a new lens

After being slightly disappointed with the performance of the Sigma 70-300 APO, I decided to buy a new mid-range to short tele zoom. I especially didn't like the background blur (bokeh) of Sigma. Although I started to appreciate the range of the 70-300, the image in the top right was shot with the 70-300. I never used it much, I'm more of a wide angle user for landscapes. Now, I'm convinced the longer focal lengths can produce very nice landscape photo's as well. You just need to think differently about how to compose your shot. With the longer focal lengths you get nicely compressed views. A nice change from the 'get everything in the frame' wide angle shots.

Anyway, back to the new lens. Being on a budget, all those nice 2.8 zooms from Canon and Sigma were slightly out of reach. So the Canon 70-200 F4 L quickly came into view and today I went of to the shop. Obviously I couldn't resist to handle the Canon 70-200 F2.8 L as well. I'm glad I did! It actually made the choice for me. Being a hiker, I have to carry all my gear in my backpack and that F2.8 is heavy! The F4 is much lighter, and being outdoors most of the time and not shooting wildlife, it being a bit slower is not a problem for me. So, hopefully I'll be uploading my first shots with the new lens pretty soon. And that's when I'll find out how good it really is.
