Creating your own brushes for Adobe Photoshop

Easy Tutorial for Photoshop beginners

1. Open Adobe Photoshop

2. Click File-new

3 Choose custom. Change width to 600 pixels

Change height to 600 pixels

Set resolution to 300 pixels per inch

Set mode to RGB

Set contents -white

Click ok. You now have blank palette to work with.

4. Open a file you wish to turn into a brush, start off with something simple, like a basic shape that is easy to isolate. I like using the polygon lasso tool .

Carefully outline the selection of the image that is to become the brush. Select inverse so that only the part of the image that you want is selected . Click copy.

5. Go back to newly created template and click paste, adjust the size of your selection to fit inside the parameters of the new template.

6. Click on File, then click “Define Brush” give it a name click ok and lo and behold, you have created a new custom brush. You will find your new brush at the bottom of your brushes palette.

I have also discovered that you can make larger brushes by starting off with a larger blank palette.

Now open a new file, choose brush and color, check out your results. I hope you will be as amazed with this as I was.

Keep in mind, that unless you choose a solid or opaque object, your new brush will have a transparent quality. Have fun. This image was created with brushes that I created with the expection of the gold hearts which were added to the design later. Hope you find this helpful.

Glad you found it helpful. I just love creating my own brushes. I had been using Photoshop for a long time before I found that I could do this. I found the information by running a search for "adobe tutorials," ever since then, that has been my greatest source for learning all kinds on new tricks.
