Editorial - Capturing a Bansky in NYC!
I was sort of following the artist known as "BANSKY" a British entity of which no one knows what he looks like or have seen because he remains anonymous. Some of his fans believe that he is a group of artist as his clever pieces of art POP and make a statement but also fetch a large figure ($500,000). In the month of October of 2013 Bansky set to do a residency by placing his world in the streets of NYC. It was an artistic excitement to look daily on the banksyny.com website to check if new artwork was placed. Checking the website daily is the only way to confirm that it is a Bansky. So I would check daily maybe twice a day but by the time I got to the artwork it was usually damaged or taken down by building owners who will eventually sell or auction at staggering price. On October 30th, 2013 I must of checked the website every hour checking to see what where his next artwork would pop up, and it did. It was a few hours before i was scheduled to go to work and when i checked the Bansky website there it was near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. I got dressed and armed with my Canon 7D and drove and found the location in front of Yankee Stadium to my surprise the artwork was untouched and admired by a few of his followers. This is the image I captured before its destruction the next day.
