The Empty Picture
For instance I would never have taken this picture, if at all I call it a picture.
It says something for sure, but it is not something that is substantial or significant, or even profound. But then this is exactly what makes a good stock photo.
Or so I think.
For I think a stock image is something to which other things can and are to be added, to say many different things; and as many a thing that can be said with it, the greater its value.
And so I must not try to picture what my eye see as a complete significant picture in and of itself, but rather to be able to isolate some elements and imagined how it can be used in another context altogether. And the degree of its utility determines the significance of the element. And then you have to photograph and present this element well.
And maybe taking stock photos is indeed an unseen deep water, and so beware of the dangers before treading in! :-)
