Focus

I have been having trouble with accurate focusing lately. I have the Olympus Evolt510 SLR digital camera and mostly use the kit lenses it came with for most of my pictures. I did buy a Zuiko telephoto lens last year to complement the other lenses. I'm trying to discover why the camera doesn't seem to focus evenly in the center of the photo. I generally use auto focus because I don't trust my eyes to tell me if the image is focused correctly.

It may be the lenses I'm using, but I'm not sure. Has anyone else had this problem? If so I would be glad to entertain suggestions. I would like to get the sharpest image possible.

Thanks for the tip Pati. I just did what you suggested and will shoot a series of shots to see how well it works. You sound very knowledgeable so I'm sure my focus will be a lot better

I shoot with Olympus. Read you manual and make sure that the aout focus is set on centr focus. You can push the buttot marked [...] then turn the front wheel that moves the focus points right to left or move the back wheel that moves the focus points top to bottom.

you should try the tape measure test.
lay out a tape measure and set your camera up on its tripod, and focus on a point on the tape. you should be able to see if your focus is off, and by how much.
try it at f8-f11 to make sure you're using your lenses sweet spot, and try at different focal lengths.

If you didn't use to have this problem before, then maybe something has gone wrong with the camera and you either need to have it serviced or buy a new one.

thanks, but sometimes even my tripod shots are not focused

I've found that using a tripod helps. I have a pretty good lens (Canon 2.8 100mm macro), and I'm shooting with a 5D, and have still had issues with hand held. I use both manual and auto focus, and in both cases notice an improvement with a tripod.

thanks. I have been thinking about Nikons lately

I never have had a focus problem. I use a Nikkon right now. If that didn´t happen before, maybe it is a camera problem that can be solved with a camera expert, use the warranty if you can, or in the other hand it may be time to change the camera.
