Fun with Food
Being that my avocados were freshly picked and far too hard for eating I did what every diligent stocky should do, I thought; ummm how can I photograph these! First thing is go to Dreamstime and search avocado photos to determine how many photographs of avocados currently exist, my search of the word “avocado” resulted in over 4,000 images. Wow! That’s a lot of images. So I set the search parameters at “downloads descending” to view the best selling images. One of the most popular arrangements for this fruit is to have one lying on its side and one cut to expose the beautiful shaped seed and to have the image isolated on a white background. My work was cut out for me to see how I could make my avocado images stand out amongst the many.
I started to set the avocados up on the white background; nonchalantly leaning them against one another to keep them from rolling off the table, and at the same time noting who was not quite “model material” and turning them to hide “figure flaws”. Stepping back to check lighting and viewing through the lens, I started to laugh. They looked like little people!
Okay, now the fun starts. Digging through my arts, crafts and sewing supplies I found a few cool accessories for my avocado models. I uploaded the images taking a deep breath and keeping my fingers crossed that the editors with find the images amusing as well as commercially viable.
On a sad note the modeling career expectancy for an avocado is very brief, only a few days at best. However, there in lies one of their greatest contributions to the culinary world, guacamole.
I hope you enjoy these California Avocados and remember that no matter how ordinary your subject matter take a moment to step back, take another look, and have a little fun!
Best wishes to all for a safe and happy holiday season.
