Half a Century

Well this is it. This is the year I turn 50 ... that's a half a century ... I'm a pentagenarian!

Milestone birthday's always make me pause to reflect where I am on life's journey

I gave my life to become the person I am right now. Was it worth it? Richard Bach

To understand where you want to go in life, you must first look back on how you arrived at where you are today. After all, life is really just the sum of the choices we make along the way.

When I was young I wanted to be an archeologist

too dirty.

Or a veterinarian

too bloody

but eventually I got my degree

in Electrical and Computer Engineering

and have had a wonderful career in the IT industry

I put my nose to the grindstone

Climbed the corporate ladder

and Invested wisely

So my husband and I could build enough of a nest egg

that we could both retire early

We packed our bags and moved

from the left coast to the right one

Now my days are filled with so many, many things

how did I ever find time to work ???

But I find myself asking the same question again and again ... What's next? After all I'm old enough to understand the many options I have and still young enough to do anything I want to. So how should I choose my "renaissance career"?

I started to brainstorm the thing that I love.

I love my husband

(most days)

and together we have a passion for a lot of things

Travel

Hiking and Nature

Cooking and Eating

Horse Racing

Turns out I am passionate about a lot of things in life, but the one thing that allows me to pursue all of my passions is my love of photography

So as I embark in my "over fifty years", I've decided to go from dabbling around in photography to dedicating the next year to this passion to see where it might lead me. I don't expect to become the next Ansel Adams, but I do hope to become the very best karenfoleyphotography that I can possibly be. Hopefully I'll pick up a few new skills, discover a new passion or two, and maybe - just maybe - learn a little more about myself and what "life after fifty" really means.

pentagenarian ? wow what a mouthful!!!
why can't they make it simpler to pronounce as we get older? lol.
seriously, from your portfolio, it looks to me you're not slowing down either.
Congrats, and many happy returns.

Think about it: you have better technology than ever Ansell Adams had plus Photoshop, rapid transport...............

I still can't fathom ever reaching his level of creativity with light! Image what he could have done with what we have today ....

Thanks to everyone for their kind words. This was my first attempt at blogging - old dog, new tricks I guess - so the words of encouragement are greatly appreciated. K-

Think about it: you have better technology than ever Ansell Adams had plus Photoshop, rapid transport............... you can do even better than what he did and things that are entirely different. . I enjoyed your story. David.
