Holidays and your portfolio.

After the long cool dark winter struggling to create and upload innovative images to Dreamstime the thought of choosing a holiday destination filled me with excitement. Early spring is best because of special low priced deals on offer at the start of the season before children's school term ends. I chose two weeks in Crete at a small fishing port , Sissi, on the north coast 40 kilometres from the capital and airport at Heraklion.

The are plenty of tavernas by the harbor where I sat drinking morning coffee

and thinking about the next photograph........

' Happy holidays; raise a glass to that ' struck me as a title and I created this image to fit the title getting my wife to hold a glass of wine with sea and sky as simple plain background.

Greek food is great especially Greek salad....... dont eat straight away ........ take the opportunity to photograph the plate.....

Everywhere you go in Crete are beautiful small orthodox churches full of art and mystery ....

There are so many tavernas offering meat and fresh fish dishes .......... newly caught and landed each day in the harbor.....

Even the tables and the chairs offer a photo opportunity....

You will see invitations to partuy nights at the taverns many elaborately decorated as in this case with pirate flags.......

Then there are trips to the countryside where there are masses of beautiful wild flowers...

Returning to the harbor cast an eye around and you spot innovative features such as this photo-voltaic lighting system.......

So far I have only looked at a few of my images....... there are so many with bracketing still to look at ......... disappointments with red eye of entertainers........ but I felt it might be helpful to make the point to newbies on Dreamstime of the opportunity to increase the size of portfolios by optimum choice of holiday resort. Maybe some day we will manage to take enough high quality images to pay for the holiday ! I hope this blog is helpful. By the way taking lots of images on holiday is also an opportunity to learn and improve one's technique. Good shooting !

Anybody got any better ideas for other destinations where the costs are reasonable ?

Weel, I'm from Cyprus but the heat in the summer prevents me from getting even out of the house durring the day. Last year it reached 50 degrees celsius. I chose to go to Germany in Garmish and Munich this year, I heard that it is a beautiful destination. Anyway, great shots
