Isolating on White Background

To view blog on my personal website, click here.

There are many ways to isolate a subject onto a white background. This tutorial will showcase 2 examples using my own techniques that I have learned. The images in the examples are my own that I have available for purchase through Dreamstime.com.

Though I cannot provide you with the files used in these examples, you can still follow along with your own images. First, make sure your lighting is good, then photograph your own money and bunch of bananas. Be sure to photograph in RAW format, as post-processing from the RAW file provides the best results.

These are just 2 of the many examples yet to come. If you have a specific situation you would like help with that my tutorials do not cover, I will do my best to assist you if you send me an email. You can contact me via the Contact Us page on my website

For viewing ease, the tutorials are available as a PDF file. If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader, download a free copy here.

Hi Teresa. I'm new to DT so I just discovered your tutorials. I wanted to tell you how much I appreciate these. I'm not terriblly proficient in Photoshop and have really been struggling with isolating on a white background. I've changed lighting, camera settings, etc. and when that didn't work, I tried aimlessly wandering in Photoshop, never getting it quite right. Your tutorials have finally made it happen! They are now both printed and occupy a prominent place on my desk. Thanks so much.

Actually, it did take a while! When I was thinking about them before-hand, I didn't think they would take more than a couple of hours to do, but once I started working on them... flipping back and forth between Photoshop and Word.. then getting Word to cooperate.. then converting to PDF.. then realizing the typos and fixing and recreating the PDF a few times.. I hope they are helpful! I must say, I felt very satisfied once I finished them!
