Like previous years, this year as well mahashivaratri festival was celebrated in Nepal on 20 February.Shivaratri falls on the moonless 14th night of the new moon in the Hindu month of Falgun, which corresponds to the month of February - March in English. Mahashivaratri is one of the biggest festivals of Hindus.Maha Shivaratri means "The Big Night of Shiva" or "Auspicious darkness". It is a night of awakening. This festival is celebrated in honor of Lord Shiva. People from all over the world throng to Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu,Nepal,one of the most important shrines of Lord shiva.Devotees worship lord Shiva while some women fast during this very day. Married women pray for the well being of their husbands and sons, while unmarried women pray for an ideal husband like Shiva.Calendar. The main attractions of the festival are Sadhu babas in Pashupatinath Temple premises. In the temple premises,babas seem to enjoy with Marijuana.This year as well, there were more than 3000 sadhu babas.Devotees also taste Marijuana as it is considered as 'Prasad' of Lord Shiva.People stay awake for the whole night by putting on fire using fire woods and logs of trees.
