My Dreamstime story
Today I've reached the milestone of 50 uploads with my Greek images
and of 30 sales with another Greek image
The numbers may seem not so great, considering the fact I joined DT 1.5 years ago... but you simply don't know yet how it all started. :-)
In spring 2008 I learnt from a magazine that photo stocks exist in the world. At that time I had only my dear old point-and-shoot Nikon Coolpix S2, nearly zero knowledge of Photoshop and much love to photography. Not that I seriously believed I could sell my images (though, I hoped!!!) - I rather wanted to check whether any of them might qualify for sale at all. The article contained a couple of links those proved to be rather useless ;-), but I found in the net some other pages. Joined one, uploaded a few files and got ALL of them refused. I felt a little discouraged but tried DT, just in case. Probably, if all pictures had been refused here either, my amateur's curiousity would have been satisfied, and I'd had just stopped my stock experments. But four images of my Venetian series were accepted! Here's the first one
...and later I managed to resubmit some others, learning how to use Photoshop meanwhile. Including my current bestseller and my only level 2, which was also the first to be sold
I didn't have regular uploads, and past year was a hard year for many reasons, so there were long months when I had neither time nor inspiration to take pictures, or even do something to my old ones. The brightest event was the purchase of my new Canon 450D. Then a period came when I was exploring it, reading some info about all photography stuff, learning, playing with PS - but uploading very little (and getting lots of rejections). Yet, I don't think I wasted that time. Three months ago I came back, to put it in a way, and started new uploads (while old ones were being sold pretty well :-) ). I even managed to raise my approval ratio to 37.6% (this summer it was not more than 25%...). Yes, and I discovered the fun of the blogs area at last!
So, today I've come to 50. 30 of them were uploaded within the last three months, and 18 were taken still with Coolpix S2. I don't know if photography ever becomes a serious occupation for me, or stays a pleasant travel hobby. What I know is that I'm having fun taking photos. I've understood that I love it even more than before. I've learnt much about photography at all and stock photography in particular. I've met many nice people here. And the last but not least, now I know that I CAN DO IT. I'd like to tell it to newbies here, especially to amateurs just like me - keep trying, be optimistic, be creative, and you all can do it. :-)
