My Research, why until now DT is best.

Well there has been lots of debate and comparison about other micro stock site with dreamstime.

Please note this my personal experience of being in this photo stock industry for two years. This you can consider as a research, well I will not be mentioning the names of other sites. Only my views and experience. Well may be one day I will publish them in my personal site as there is no censorship in my site.

I'm uploading images to 6 sites, one top site as many designing community consider, its pain uploading to that site, Being a top site as per the designing community the images uploaded doesn't read EXIF data, manually I need to put all the information. Well it might be very popular site, but we don't have that much time, so I left that site as it consumes more time. Now I have 5 sites.

Well I have around 257 images in DT, the same images were uploaded to all the other sites, in other sites I have 61, 134, 65, and 20. Now for the people who complain DT rejection rate is higher, I personally don't believe this theory, as the results are in front of me, yeah there are some images which gets approved in other site. The only conclusion I come up is these editors are business minded, they see the sales point of view when it comes to image selection.

Now lets come to sales which is what we need to consider, before think to be exclusive.

In DT I have earned around 1200 USD. in three other sites I didn't even reach 100 USD, another site I have made around 300 USD. I'm holding back to be exclusive in DT because of the money generated from another one site.

Now I'm logging all my efforts and time uploading images in other sites, which will give me clear picture in another few months if the time spent on those site is really worth. The new DT tool is handy.

Image editing and keywording requires same amount of time if you are uploading to one site or multiple site.

Finally I know different people has different views, but I'm giving my views based on facts and figures, Insha Allah in few months time, I will be able to understand if its worth to be exclusive or non exclusive, based on the money generated not on online images.

I ask other users who are non exclusive and give inputs, it might help people to make right decision.

Digitalg, I understand what you mean, thanks for your inputs, hope this will help people to make a choice, either be exclusive or submit everywhere. But for me DT has been best until now.

Afagundes, Well to buy from different sites checking for the cheapest option, is not possible for every buyer. For example the company i worked before has just two accounts with microstock, and now they have just with dreamstime, likewise many other designing or ad agency doesnt hold account or subscription on all sites.

Just my 2 cents.
I think buyers might look for your images in several sites and download the cheapest one they can find, so I dont give them this option, I am exclusive here.
A google search will find your images in any site, for that reason I dont think it makes that much of a difference if you have the same images in more than one site, but being exclusive here I have my benefits and my images scale faster.

I have a sligthly different opinion.
First, about sales and accepted files. It depends a lot on the type of photos you make. If you shot models you'll more successfull on one site, while if you shot landscape you'll be more sucsessful at another site, and so on.
I'm with DT for several years, almost 5, and that compares in years to that other "pain to submit" site. So I'll start comparing these two.
I submited almost the same images, a little bit less here because DT does not accept so small images. I have here 168 and there 254. And the fact is that average sales on DT run about 1/4 of the other site.
For the last 2 years I decided spice up this photo thing, and enrolled to other sites, all of them "steady" sites where one isn't required to submit every day to keep making sales. I gave up on some and now I submit to a total of 5 sites. In one of them I have a huge rejection rate and only 76 files online. But those 76 files are steadily generating more sales that DT, about 1/3 to 1/2 more. The other two sites are not even worth mentioning, their sales are really low and I only keep submiting there because is really easy to.
This last year I invested more on DT than on anyother site, hoping for a turn around, but I must say I'm disappointed. I've more than doubled my port and sales are now almost the same while at other site they grew more less on the same proportion of the port.
So, if I was going exclusive, unfortunately it would not be here.

Interesting topic and analysis. However, I do have several point to consider... It's my personal opinions only.

The first is the number of pictures online. I don't know if the earnings going linearly with upload or exponentially... 200 around pictures are probably too less to tell the story. Those with over 1k online may share a little history, which helps with the estimation.

Second is how long with a agency... The longer to be, the more high level shots you have online, which means more earnings each download and probably better searching standings.

To compare agencies apple to apple way, the shots and time with the agency should be close to reveal the real picture.

Intersting topic indeed.

I have my up and downs in sales with DT, but if I have a down with DT in this month usually one or two of my other agencies pick up.

Hi Altaf, I am in the same situation wondering whether to go exclusive or not, there are many benefits and as Brad said time is definately one of them.

Hi Altaf, I'm an exclusive and you already have my opinion on this though!
Good luck in sales everywhere and especially on DT... :)

About 5 seconds to see how much I made.
I use Pro Stock Master and I know at any time how much I have made on all the agencies.

Check it out
here

If you upload only 5 pics/day it's free.

To see what I have and where, I don't bother. I have a master file with all the pics and I upload them to all the agencies. It's funny how from a batch they some time get "distributed". I just look at the notifications when they arrive, and occasionally I look at my portfolios.
In terms of net earning, DT is my number one for me too.

As an exclusive I always find this type of discussion interesting - of course I hope everyone finds DT to be the best :) How much time do you spend keeping track of where and what you have submitted to each site?

Very interesting analysis. I came to the same conclusion with a much shorter experience, so it's nice to see we share the same view on this, since you've been doing this for much longer. I also find that more pictures get a chance here, and these pictures might not sell to much individually but all adds up. I closed some other accounts and lost some money there as I had not reached the pay out, but all my losses were covered immediately.
Rooms for improvement at DT is the search engine in other languages than English, that's not very good yet in my opinion. I hope something is done soon in that area.

I looked at your earnings from all sites...and my advice based on your calculation it is that:if you earn 100$ on month DT and 50$ other sites ..after you go exclusive you must to earn at least 150$ DT month or more!If you earn already more then my advice it is to go exclusive DT.If you wanna upload many photos in the future or you wanna make a team and pay people for you then think more on going exclusive or no

If your are an agency it will be a hard decision. There is an entire team needs to be paid in time and to be motivated, Only if you have a long term budget, available for costs
