My silly grudge against DT

As a new contributor here, when I was in the first 50 uploads on DT, I was uploading stuff I should not have. I had always considered a beautiful red rose photo I had shot as my best ever shot. I uploaded among the very first uploads only to find it rejected.

Guess the reason?

We already have similar images in our database and your submission doesn't exceed existing images in quality or composition. Or something like that.

A brutal punch in the face, a sky high contributor with a castle in the air goes flat down to the ground. Shattered dreams and lost confidence. They say my best shot isn't even worth accepting?! How dare they? I mean, my family loved it! My mom said it is the greatest photo in the world. My sister fainted when I told her it is me who shot it. My dad was so impressed he bought a whole rose orchard the next day. I showed the photo to my girlfriend and the whole street full of girls decided to marry me.

And DT said it isn't even acceptable? Who do the reviewers think they are? If they think my image may not sell, it is MY problem. Not theirs.

I swore I'd get a rose photo online one of these days, whatever happens, I will. Just to make a point that my rose photos are better than those in the database.

I slowly came to realize reviewers are my best friends, not people who reject my stuff for fun. But hurt ego hangs around, doesn't it?

So here goes the rose photo:

It finally got accepted. Now I don't hold any grudge against the reviewer robots of DT who heartlessly declined my astonishing masterpiece as worthless and unacceptable even to be included in the database.

Thanks to the reviewers though! I have a 100 sales today and I have been doing better than others who started around the same time. :)

Back to shooting rose photos now.....I'm still hurt. Insulted, even. haha!

Personally, I think to be able to get DT to accept a flower image, is a testament to your photography skills. Congrats!

Rejection happens. It is humbling to remember you are one of the millions out there with a camera in your hand. You cannot let it bother you. I am grateful when my work is accepted and happier when there is a check in the mail. Keep shooting!

I too get hurted, disheartened, and disappointed... And dont know how to get rid of rejection hurdles, but trying to improve..

Miraclemoments, please don't. If it gets on you'd probably make another hundred newbies mad. Indirectly, by adding to roses.

Lenutaidi, I hope my customers are like you. ;)

that rose photo is already a winner - congratulations - regarding hurt ego - we all go through that, some easier, some more insulted - main thing is we make the best out of it and it seems you did ;)

Hi Pratik! Nice blog about issues related to rejections. We've had our share of rejections as well. Just last night one of our most hopeful images that we were waiting for more than a week to get reviewed got rejected but the way reviewer described the reason for rejection made us smile. It was one of the times where Ego surrenders to the facts. :) Well…in terms of sales we’re approaching the milestone of 4000 sales and hopefully it’ll bring us a good reason to be happy over this weekend. Btw red roses are hard to photograph and you've done a good job here. Congratulations!! :)

Good luck with your future rose photos my friend. and dont get insulted by the reviewers they are just doing their jobs and what they think is right(most of the times)
