Finally decided to upgrade to a new camera, from an old second
hand Coolpix.
Decided on the Canon 7D. Very excited also about starting an MA
in Film and Visual Studies soon, for which reason the new camera was mainly purchased.
The camera should be arriving this week.....can't wait
Will be posting new images soon, here's hoping....this one shown here is from the older camera
:-)

Hi, may I know which lens do you use?
I am using 7d with EF-S 15-85 and I think the pictures are having high noise compare to my old EOS 450D.
Cheers..
I heard that the 15-85mm is a great lens and as good as an L series...
What do you think of it?
I used a 50mm 1.4 sigma prime lens, which on the ASP-C is rewally about 80-85mm.
It produces gorgeous bokeh and is great at capturing movement. Good for portraits, and medium distance (about up to 100ft away). There is no colour distortion or any other problems that I have seen so far. All the same I have not tried it out yet, for low light conditions. It copes with handheld shots very well without a tripod, in good light.
Just tested the sigma 70-200mm OS (around 110-300mm on 7D), (handheld) on wildlife on a bright day. Great portrait style again. Copes quite well with about 200metres from a moving subject, producing sharp results. Because it is so heavy however avoiding hand shake is hard after a while and the OS may not always save the shot. Also placing the focus correctly at 200 metres hand held is much harder, with a moving or several moving subjects to capture. I need a monopod I think. Colour fringing against a bright blue sky was apparent on some details of distant birds at about 200-300 ft away. Hopefully with more practice however, I will get even better results. Some shots were really good. On my second day out capturing wildlife, I did much better. However the subjects were very close, so it was less difficult to track and focus. Steep learning curve for me to get the shutter speed and iso setting right.... but I am enjoying it all so much. The photographic results are a reward in themselves.
Let me know what is your experience with your lenses and 7D? :-)
About the noise. Are you working in low light or capturing bright sky? High iso in low light can cause noise, or bright overexposed skies can appear noisy. Check your camera settings. As well as that, a capture that may be beyond the telephoto zoom range of the lens may appear noisy?
Just learning about settings and conditions myself, so I am not a complete authority you understand.
Let me know what you think :-)

like your very interesting style - reckon the 7D will be much fun and surely a very good choice - hope to grab one in near future too
Thanks Martin for your comments. I'm still a beginner really in photography but I am from a fine art and film design background, so here's hoping that the best of art and storying will come through in my work, if not now, then as I grow in skill. Thanks again-
