Olympia Sales Celebrates 50 Years this Month
Olympia Sales Inc, parent company of Fravessi, Paper Street and Enfield Stationers turns the big 5-0 this month! My Dad, founder Art O'Hara started in March 1966, with the idea of helping kids learn about sales while earning awesome gifts. Back then, kids were allowed to go door-to-door (imagine that!) selling greeting cards to their neighbors. The warehouse in Enfield, CT was filled with the great prizes that kids would see on the backs of comic books and boy's magazines: bikes, scooters, radios, tents - all the things that dreams were made of. Enterprising boys and girls were given catalogs of the products and pamphlets with help from Captain O to encourage them to learn about the world of sales.
In those days, boxed Christmas greeting cards were the thing that sold. Greeting card artists were like rock stars: the best ones were hot in demand. The artists would work in watercolor or gouache. Some images are timeless; others capture the era in which they were made with perfect clarity. We'd like to share with you some of those great vintage pieces from Olympia's past, as well as artwork from our Fravessi collection, so that these works can be enjoyed in our time.
