RPD - Revenue Per Download

The sky is the limit

In March 2007 DT introduced new subscription plans for buyers and credits for contributors ( Price updates and strategy for 2007). It has been a widely discussed topic since then how $0.25 sales affect contributors.

Today I noticed a nice column on my statistics page, which shows, how my revenue per download has changed during those months. I thought I'd share this stats with you.

SUCCESS!!!

Of course everybody stats are different, but I don't think it's common trend, that our average royalties are diminishing. As you can see from my stats, it can be quite opposite. When I started on this site, DT promised to pay $0.50 per every image. I have got much more than promised.

LOL, I must have some counting problems too...
Actually I thought you counted those two lowering factors together. :)

ROFL, Stuart, you are too funny... nowadays they call such things computers, what do such counting behalf of Serban or any of us. :)))

It worths to mention two important things...
Thank you for your input, Serban. That's so true.

Lieska, with $0.50 per image I meant the conditions when I started. Actually, yes, DT have promised 50% to non-exclusive contributor, and it was exactly $0.50 per image (no more, no less) back then when I started, and this average number has not diminished.
In the opposite, DT has gradually gave me a raise. That's what my stats are showing to me:

Month ----------- RPD
February 2008 -- $1.06
March 2008 -- $1.05
April 2008 -- $1.10
May 2008 -- $1.00
June 2008 -- $1.00
July 2008 -- $1.06
August 2008 -- $1.40
September 2008 -- $1.44
October 2008 -- $1.27
November 2008 -- $1.35
December 2008 -- $1.35
January 2009 -- $1.28
February 2009 -- $1.33

I understand, that I can't expect it will constantly grow, and every time I see $0.36 additional format sale, it hurts me. But I can see from my stats, that this is not a permanent damage. The average is not so bad at all. I feel DT treats me very well, though who wouldn't like to see higher raise all the time.

It worths to mention two important things if you monitor this parameter (which is a wise thing to do):
- if you have few sales per month and/or a small portfolio, the RPD can vary dramatically from one month to the next
- if you have low resolution files, you will see a lower RPD than others
- if you have many similars in your portfolio (illustrations, similar images) your RPD will be lower due to high levels being reached in longer time intervals

As an amateur, I think it is so hard to earn too much here, just an odd compare to the expense on time and money, most of my pics just cost $0.42. The most meaningful thing here is to enjoy the happiness that your pieces are favored of buyers, small is larger than nothing.

Now I have a question about the promise: DT promise you at least $0.50 per image. If one did not sell any image in a month except one description download, $0.36 or $0.42, then what will happen next?

I don't think DT promises $0.50 minimum per image - they promise at least 50% per image sold. This could be as low as $0.36 if purchased via a subscription...

Of course, between Feb 2006 and Feb 2008 were couple price increases and change of image Levels structure.

I can only agree with this observation of increasing RPD:

Feb. 2006: $0.50 av.
Jan. 2008: >$1.00 av.

Cheers to all

Here is my stats RPD:
March 2006 $0.57
April 2006 $0.54
May 2006$0.71
June 2006$0.72
July 2006 $0.80
August 2006$0.78
September 2006$0.76
October 2006 $0.76
November 2006$0.70
December 2006$0.88
January 2007 $0.79
February 2007 $0.85
March 2007 $0.84
April 2007 $0.85
May 2007 $0.78
June 2007 $0.83
July 2007 $0.97
August 2007 $1.01
September 2007$1.03
October 2007$0.86
November 2007$1.34
December 2007$0.90
January 2008$0.94
February 2008$0.70

So, as I see, despite price inrease, that DT made last year and levels adjustment, RPD ratio stays pretty much the same - because of subscription. So, my conclusion, subscription has hegative effect on contributors

It's great, guys, to see your stats too :) This industry keeps growing and so does DT. Thank for your comments. Rob, I can't give you a strait answer, cause I'm not sure, how to find extended licenses info quickly and I don't remember having many (or any?) EL sales on this site... Oops, I found out how to check them out. I have had 1 EL sale... hmm... I think it's included. :) But I have had many additional format sales. Hope this helps to explain my stats. Thanks again for your input.

I hardly ever have subscription sales, and with subscription sales being $0.36 for large files, it hardly drops my RPD. I like the subscription plan here.

Hi Maigi! Congrats for your sales and statistics but first of all congratulations for your portfolio! Beautiful!! Just a question, please: according to your experience, are the extended licenses included in this statistic (RPD) or not? ;-) Thanks. Bye, Rob.
