Sad Day

I am sad to say that recently I was robbed of some of my camera equipment. I was relieved of my recently acquired camera bag containing some of my lenses, my D80 camera all my chargers, flash unit and Sony handycam video camera, a loss of +- R50.000-00 in Rand currency. Even sadder is the fact that I did not have these insured - and here is the lesson in this - so will not receive money back for this equipment and will have to fork out for new one's. Lesson learnt if its worth a lot to lose then insure it. I do hope that whoever stole these know what karma is and they get whats coming to them. There is some good news though, my new D700 and lens (24-85) and my 50-500mm Sigma lenses were not stolen as I could not fit them all in the same bag, so as sad as it is at least all is not lost :0) Happy days!!!

Hi Rozenn, no I have not had the time yet but it is a good suggestion, I have all the paper work and documents with details so can prove it was mine...

Patrick, yes there is a scurge in this country of second hand buyers, sad thing is I would have given more in cash to have the stuff back than they would get selling it to someone else or a porn shop.

I still have some stuff to work with and have recently been offered a Canon system for a good price, which I am still considering, so hopefully can carry on regardless of my loss :0)

aaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhh!!
I just hate the crime in this country!

I suppose it would have been prudent to insure the goodies, I too also ask why should we have to do that?

Just the last thing I have to say … to all those out there who may get offered a deal that is too good to be true, always think twice about where indeed that deal originated … If more people did this there would be far less market to flood with "cheap" "second hand" goods.

Bad news, especially when you think that the robbers won't probably do anything with your equipment - no winners for this. Have you checked the pawn shops around where the equipment was stolen? Maybe the robbers will try to get a bit of cash there and if you had the serial numbers you could perhaps get lucky...

A sad day indeed-sorry to hear that news. Very annoying that someone has got away with that, but try not to dwell on that fact as it can make you even more unhappy at the theft. Yes insurance is a must, but sometimes we think that perhaps we do not need it. A lesson for us all, i hope you soon manage to replace your equipment soon, all the best. :)

When you think about it loss can happen in other ways like when I dropped my 170 - 500 mm lens onto a concrete floor so insurance is a good idea. Thank you for reminding us and sorry for your loss. David.
