Saint Nicholas

Today is Saint Nicholas. Because of the many miracles attributed to his intercession, he is also known as Nicholas the Wonderworker. Also Saint Nicholas is the model for Santa Claus.

Today we celebrate a beautiful tradition to put gifts in the shoes of those who left them out for him. All the children are very happy because they receive all kind of gifts in their shoes.

I wish you a Happy Saint Nicholas Day.

Learned something new today, thanks Dragos. We have similar tradition in the Philippines but we use stockings. Growing up in a poor family, however, we did not have stockings so we improvised them with socks--the bigger the socks, the bigger the chance for more presents. For my big brother & I, we always borrowed our Dad's socks!

Happy Saint Nicholas Day to all fisherman, all people that carry the name of Nicholas and all bankers as well!

Here in Bulgaria we eat fish, usually carp, stuffed with vegetables today. So have a glass of fine white wine and a delicious meal tonight and let us all be healthy and happy next year!

Yes, we have:))
It's so nice to read that the celebration of Saint Nicholas is alive through a larger part of Europe!
In Holland, it is a large part of childrens' daily life from novemer 15th till december 5th, as Saint Nicholas (or Sinterklaas as we call him) arrives with his old steamer from his residence in Spain.
I've witten a blog about it last year: https://blog.dreamstime.comblog on Sinterklaas
Our oldest son knows about the true part of the celebration now (he understands it's the parents buying the presents;)) and yesterday, he dressed up as a little 'zwarte piet' (black peter), to deliver a bag of presents to a family we know. He had so much fun! Unfortunatly I was not able to take any pictures:(
Have you been good this year, Dragos?;)
