Just a quick technical tip this week...I wanted to take a quick moment to write about an issue I had this week with my Canon 7D and the Tamron 70-300mm VC lens. For those who have read my blogs in the past, you know that I recommend this combination as a good economy rig for those getting started or simply have no budget for photography gear. For the most part I have been using this lens with manual focus for birds on a stick and had not used the AF a whole lot, but when I did use it, I noticed... continue reading

Finally tired of fighting the camera and the far-too-often "out of focus" issues when an image is not accepted, I went ahead and ordered a Canon 7D (upgrading from a T2i.)I can't believe how much better my images are turning out! And, I wondered why I had waited so long to make the move.Camera equipment is an investment in your business (or hobby, as it is for so many people.) But having quality equipment will make all your efforts much more worthwhile. Imagine finding yourself in a once-in-... continue reading
Hi,I've been shooting with a Canon EOS 400D since the model came out (6-7 years ago) and although I upgraded with lenses I am now finally going towards that already late body upgrade.I've been reading reviews of different models and I've narrowed it all down to either the Canon EOS 60D or the 7D.Now given that the current market price sets a 400 euro price difference between the two cameras I am highly uncertain whether it's actually worth it.So any 60D and 7D users care to partake... continue reading
First of all, I need to stress that this is my no means a technical review of the Canon 5D Mark 3. I will leave that to the experts. I cannot compare this to other brands such as Canon's main competition Nikon because I have never used one. I will however compare this to my 7D. I have also had the opportunity over the last few years to work with the 5D Mark 2.When I'm not in the studio, I shoot weddings and events which are notorious for ever changing lighting conditions. In need of a camera that... continue reading
Received my new 7D camera about a week ago now and I am using a sigma 50mm 1.4 lens on it at the moment. Saved a few hundred euros buying it online. Since I will be studying Film and Visual Image making soon, every saving counts. I am trying to build a film making/photography kit from scratch, on a truly tight budget! I had a lovely day out at the beach and took alot of informal portraits etc that unfortunately I cannot show here. The difference between the 7D and my old coolpix is astounding. The... continue reading
Finally decided to upgrade to a new camera, from an old secondhand Coolpix.Decided on the Canon 7D. Very excited also about starting an MAin Film and Visual Studies soon, for which reason the new camera was mainly purchased. The camera should be arriving this week.....can't waitWill be posting new images soon, here's hoping....this one shown here is from the older camera:-) continue reading
I came across this information accidentally, and wanted to be sure that all you EOS 7D photogs are aware of the update coming out the beginning of August. It sounds great and will cause me to love my 7D even more.First, it is FREE.And, if it's free, it's for me.It gets old to have to pay for every little update.Second, with the upgrade you can now shoot up to 25 RAW images at an 8 fps burst rate, up from the current 15. Great for capturing pictures of a fast moving game, or in my... continue reading
I've owned and shot with a Canon 40D for a while now, and have been very happy with it.For my personal use it is more than adequate as well.I did feel that 10MP was starting to get dated, especially when cropped - and I figured if I was going to produce 500 photos a year in 2011 I should try to be a bit ahead of the game :)As well, I wanted a bigger viewfinder. With that in mind I upgraded to the Canon 7D.Overall, I am quite happy with it.The jump from 10MP to 18MP is real, though it... continue reading
