Taking photos of giant marine mammals can be tricky.First of all, they simply can’t be counted on to show up on set on time. Whale watching tour companies chart the movement of known pods and individuals to ensure that their trips offer the most likely chances of seeing whales but even then, getting dramatic images is challenging. What can you do to ensure that you get the best shots?I have ventured out to sea to observe whales off the coast of Canada, spending what seemed like a lot of... continue reading

I usually shoot all my pictures on "A", which stands for Aperture. I like to control my lens opening for depth of field as well as sharpness. I don't have the best lenses so I try to stop down at least one stop if not two.1/3 of the way through my trip, my camera would not work on "A"! So, I switched to AUTO to see if that worked. It did! So, for the rest of my trip I shot everything on AUTO.After looking at all my pictures, I've come to the conclusion that AUTO was not really an inconvenience... continue reading
Dear DT community, I haven't been active on the site for almost 2 years now, because I've made a decision to refocus my photographic ambitions and interests following a more theatrical/artistic style.I've got no regrets doing that, however, it seems to me that I've reached something of a rut in my path. The problem arises with a feeling I have that each new project I start it doesn't end up pushing me towards something new or better. I don't get the feeling that I improve myself or my images... continue reading
A couple of days ago the picture below was sold. By now it has been sold 5 times. So, I started to wonder "who is interested in a picture like that?".As a contributor we know very little about the buyers (only via sales). At the same time the whole collection of searches done by buyers contains a lot of relevant information. There exist data mining algorithms that reveal that kind of information. It would be nice if contributors would know about this. It would create a win-win situation for the... continue reading
Hello, dear friends! You know, not only the central places of Sweden are beautiful. It's provinces are amazing too. Really nice place to visit!Always with gratitude and... continue reading

In a few words Sweden means for me design and proportions, colors and textures, bicycles and ecology, streets and houses, bays and embankments, windows and balconies, comfort and friendliness, natural landscapes, aerial perspectives, fairy tales, deer, bunnies, birds and, of course, marvelous parks and unique museums, outstanding palaces, unforgettable provinces... continue reading

There’s something about black and white images that makes them powerful, interesting and almost more expressive than color photos. One might have assumed, back when color photos were first developed, that black and white images would slowly turn into a relic from a time when imaging technology was in its infancy. After all, color brings a whole new dimension to photography. However, as the years went by, black and white photography didn’t disappear. Instead, these monochrome images have... continue reading
Mastering sports photography and action shots in general can be a frustrating task. With moving targets, sometimes less-than-ideal lighting conditions, and money shots that only last for a split second before they disappear, action photography is really challenging. Here are some pointers to help you master these shots! Know How to Use Your FlashGenerally, if you’re outside, using your flash will do nothing for you except kill your batteries. If you’re at a daylong event or even... continue reading
