Studying the database and file age

When we are starters at micro stock, one of the things we must do to learn more about stock image industry is to study the database to see what is uploaded, what sells better, what are the current trends and so on.This cannot be achieved in one day or a week, it is more a continuous work we all must do while we are shooting, editing, drawing, uploading, keyworing and doing all other necessary work. One of the errors I have made when I started was to assume that images with some or many sales... continue reading

The Golden Age of Stock is Over but there is Still Gold to be Found

Critics of microstock will tell you that the microstock business is a race to the bottom and a waste of time. And you know what? They're right! When microstock first began, it was a boom for those who got in early. Contributors were making tons of money mainly because there wasn't much competition. I would liken the early days of microstock to a gold rush. The lucky few who were there when the gold was discovered cashed in on easy money but the gold dried up as everyone else rushed in to stake... continue reading

Photographers' Lament (for the over 50's!)

Grow old gracefully they say,I wouldn’t have it any other way.But when I struggle from my chair,I find that grace just isn’t there. And looking in the mirror I seeMy Grandma looking back at me.And when I kneel to catch that viewOf a primrose dressed in morning dew.I have to wait for a helping handTo help me stagger and finally stand. When the kids say ‘Gran, oh do be quick!’I use my tripod as a walking stick. My camera bag weighs more each dayAnd the ground gets... continue reading

MR library info - do check it !

This short reminder is directed especially to photographers shooting children (as the problem is more common there), but of course applies to all photos where people are involved. You probably know that our Dreamfinder has a nice section where you can specify a model's gender, ethnicity and age. When you submit a new MR, and you are careful enough to state that a John is a Male, you use that MR for your next submissions with the same model.Do you remember that people get older?Adults can... continue reading

As time goes by, models get older... Thoughts about Model Releases

I'm very impressed by the powerful search engine DT provides to designers; so many little details that make one's job easier and give everyone a chance to find the right photos for the right project. For instance I like the fact that when you upload a model release, you specify the age of the model, allowing designers to refine their search to specific age brackets.I guess that many of us have favorite models that we will hopefully keep on photographing for years. Cute baby Melba, photographed... continue reading
