Animal Shelter Photography: Sable the senior GSD

Three female German Shepherds came into the Walton County Animal Control shelter in three days, all from the same general area. It looked like some “wonderful” person decided to just dump their shepherds instead of finding them new homes or bringing them to the shelter. The first German Shepherd picked up was the youngest; just under a year. She was very skittish, but came around well enough and German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Georgia came to get her within a couple of days.... continue reading

Dog Rescue Photography: Skip

So many little dogs come into the animal shelter with a big attitude. But not little “Skip”! It was a real pleasure getting to play with this cute little pup prior to his photo session. He was scooting about all around my feet and ready to jump into my lap as soon as I sat down!“Skip” was picked up stray by an animal control officer on August 15, 2018. But like so many other loose dogs, he didn’t have a collar, tag or microchip to find his way back home. (Come on people, its 2018!... continue reading

Animal Shelter Photography: Titan

It must have been "big dog breed week" at the Walton animal shelter! It started with a Saint Bernard mix, then a gigantic Kangle Anatolian Shepherd, and finally this handsome Leonberger/Newfoundland mixed boy. Perhaps I'm being creative on our breed guesses, but “Titan” certainly looked enough like a Leonbeger, a mountain dog from Germany.“Titan” was picked up stray by an animal control officer on August 13, 2018. He was so big, the officer (who is no small guy himself&... continue reading

Animal Shelter Photography: Bama

Down to the wire! That is how it can be at times in an animal control shelter.“Bama” had been in the Walton County Animal Control shelter for eleven days. That might not seem like a long time, but in an open-intake “dog pound” that euthanizes when full, that is too long! Most dogs are afforded less than a week to get new homes. “Bama” had been turned in to the shelter three times by citizens who found him running loose in a local mobile home park. The first two impounds, his owner came... continue reading

Dog Rescue Photography: Loki the Aussie

Some dogs get themselves adopted and don’t really need any help from me. “Loki” was a handsome Australian Shepherd mixed breed dog that was picked up stray by an animal control officer on August 6, 2018. I probably didn’t need to do any “glamour photos” of this boy, but I was on a roll that morning and did his photo session anyway.I arrived at the animal shelter around seven in the morning and got everything ready for a morning full of photography and dog evaluations. In the... continue reading

Animal Shelter Photography: Tiberius the Boxer

“Tiberius” was a precious senior Boxer turned in to the Walton County Animal Control shelter on May 7, 2018. He was an older boy and a bit wobbly on his back legs, but full of life and cheer. He immediately warmed up to me and wasn't at all afraid of the camera. He absolutely loved getting outdoors for a walk in the morning for his photograph. I loved his soulful expression highlighted by his graying muzzle. The amount of gray on his ears and eyebrows made his coat look like silver... a precious... continue reading

Dog Rescue Photography: Goofy Gage!

“Gage” was a friendly boy that was picked up by a Walton County Animal Control officer on June 27, 2018. Unfortunately he had no tag or microchip to find his way home and was brought to the animal shelter.“Gage” had a wonderful, happy personality; a cute kind of goofiness. Goofy “Gage” kept leaning up against my legs and nudging his nose under my hand looking for some petting! It was that goofy look with his tongue sticking out that got him noticed and adopted within just a few days!... continue reading

Pet Adoption Photography: Bocephus the Coonhound

“Bocephus” was a handsome hound dog picked up stray by a Walton County Animal Control officer on May 8, 2018. He had a hunter orange collar and dragging a 5 foot black leash, so he had to have belonged to somebody. Not sure if he was a lost hunting dog, or got away from somebody’s house. As is my luck when I really like a dog, he tested heartworm positive. But thankfully Anne, Lane and Audrey had already posted pledges for his rescue before his hold even expired. And not long after posting his... continue reading

Pet Rescue Photography: Bigsby

Bigsby the Boxer DogIt is strange how it seems that dog breed impounds run in spurts. “Bigsby” is the fifth Boxer to come through the Walton County Animal Control shelter in Monroe, Georgia in the last few weeks! “Bigsby” was picked up stray by an animal control officer on May 14, 2018. The officer had no trouble “taking him in” when he ran right up to the truck looking to go for a ride! In the shelter, he was a bit of a barky and excited boy, but it must have all been to get outside.... continue reading

Pet Adoption Photography: "Lace" the kitten

“Kitten season” began in April, just as it does every year. Last month alone, 129 cats were brought into the Walton County Animal Control shelter in Georgia, USA!Luckily, there was a great run of adoptions at the beginning of May. But with so many litters of kittens coming in, the local cat rescue groups were soon full. That left little ones like “Lace” hoping for an adopter.I brought “Lace” into my makeshift kitty studio for a few shots on Friday afternoon. After... continue reading
