Studying the database and file age

When we are starters at micro stock, one of the things we must do to learn more about stock image industry is to study the database to see what is uploaded, what sells better, what are the current trends and so on.This cannot be achieved in one day or a week, it is more a continuous work we all must do while we are shooting, editing, drawing, uploading, keyworing and doing all other necessary work. One of the errors I have made when I started was to assume that images with some or many sales... continue reading

Disappearing pictures - database cleaning

Hi, I'm a bit longer than 4 years on Dreamstime, and began to receive comments about old pictures with zero sales. If you don't know yet, what it's about, I explain: to keep the database clear, DT offers to disable, re-keyword on paid basis or donate for free the images which were not sold for the period of 4 years. You have 30 days to take desicion after such a note.I think, it's a good idea to delete what is not in demand and give way to fresh works. When I began to check the pictures I... continue reading

Taking photos on military base in Afghanistan.

If you will see my pictures, there are - due to my profession - almost all from some kind of military environment. Being repeatedly stationed on military base in middle of nowhere somehow predefines the topics of images taken :).Although I´m not professional of any kind, maybe I can share some simple rules for taking pictures in similar kind of environment, or while taking photos of some military stuff.

200 up :)

Woohoo! Finally got to my 200th upload from a series of flaming baseball pictures I was working on over the weekend, the new upload limit seems to have knocked my "mojo" a little and my AR has taken a little slump! It has been an interesting 3 1/2 months and it certainly has made me look a little more closely at my photography and I am certainly much more precise now than I was when I embarked on a wee stock photography experiment.I am also amazed at the rate of improvement of my... continue reading

WOW I have database exposure!!!!

Just before I start this quick blog article sitting here safe in my home in England I want to send out my thoughts to those currently being affected by the earthquake and tsunami hitting Japan and surrounding areas.I really hope we do not see the great loss of life we did on Boxing Day 2004.So I have hit a milestone this week with 500 pictures online.I only really started making an effort in April 2010 so managed to get them on over the last 11 months.Still nowhere near to being a prolific... continue reading

My first editorial image accepted

My first editorial image was accepted today. It's one of a series of 20 new statues in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia Phanatic is the mascot for the Philadelphia Phillies (winners of the 2008 World Series!!). This year, 20 of these Phanatic statues were created and are displayed all over the city. At the end of the baseball season, they are each going to be raffled off and the money will be donated to charity. This particular statue shows the Phanatic dressed as Benjamin... continue reading
