Captive Critters

BEAR HOLLOW ZOO, ATHENS, GEORGIAAlthough it may feel like cheating to shoot wildlife in a zoo, it is still a great opportunity to get practice and have some relaxing fun for the day. And the biggest tip: get there early! Bear Hollow Zoo is a small, local zoo in Athens, Georgia. I entered the park along with one of the caretakers who proceeded to make his rounds of feeding and checking on the animals. Each critter became quite excited and active for breakfast as we passed by their enclosures. Otherwise,... continue reading

My great desire to make photo and great adventures

Last year my friends and I gathered to go on a trip to beautiful places, namely the Ukrainian Carpathians. Our main goals were to get distracted from everyday worries, to forget about work, home troubles, to relax from children, to plunge into the world of nature and for a while to feel an integral part of it. The Carpathian Mountains are a highlight of Ukraine. They are famous for the cleanest air, hospitable inhabitants, rich flora and fauna, great forest clean mountain... continue reading

In this post I will examine why the shutter is so crucial in wildlife as well as other action photography disciplines. The shutter in your camera is quite a powerful and useful tool. From a technical perspective, the shutter mechanism is simply a set curtains that open and close for a certain period of time. This action allows... continue reading

Our Obsession with Noise

When I started in photography back in the mid 1990s we were all shooting film and film that was manufactured for higher light sensitivity caused the silver halide to clump together causing a phenomenon we termed "grainy." Some photographers actually liked the look produced by this high speed film and a whole art subculture was born around it.Even today, in what can be called the digital age, these same individuals still practice their craft with high speed film.Even though the "we love grain"... continue reading
