Media editors often penalize writers who use illustrations or photos in fiction, except, of course, in children’s books. In novels, they consider graphics support “unprofessional.”In the case of indie writers, I believe they are wrong. Here’s why.I was an editor at the Reader’s Digest for many years. We loved pictures with our stories, which were either original or condensed from established magazines. But the editors upstairs, in the condensed book department, shunned them.... continue reading

I am an author of Children’s Story Books. My books consist of mainly photo illustrations of which I shoot myself and/or use royalty free illustrations supplied by Dreamstime.com. As a Children’s Book author, I develop most of my stories over time with many thought provoking spurts throughout a day, week, or month. These thought provoking spurts include deciding what illustrations I may need for the story line. These thoughts may or may not be part of the final book, but I need a process of... continue reading

Leave a good book in a waiting room or lobby."How cool is that? Books, in every possible form, are... continue reading

Besides photography I am a writer so with the advent of self publishing through Amazon I decided to put out some novels and short stories. The process is very much "do it yourself" from typing, to layout, to cover design. So I have taken on the role of designer for the books and it has been fun to look at photographs for cover illustration from a different point of view. The first book I did was fairly easy since I knew where I wanted the cover photo to be from and I kew it when I saw it. Short stories... continue reading
