Punxsutawny Phil recently decided it's not going to be spring for a while. He woke up, took a peak at the world, and ran back home. At least that explains the 6 more weeks of winter thing, which seems counter-intuitive to me. I mean, if its sunny outside, we humans tend to think spring is on its way.If a ground hog appears and no one is there to see it, is there even a shadow? Sometimes we are afraid of our own shadows, and we run and hide. My cat sometimes chases its own shadow. A better move,... continue reading
A well designed logo paves the way to a successful business, and some of the most well sold illustrations in microstock cater towards the needs of small emerging businesses, small entrepreneurs who can’t afford an expensive logo designer or branding company. The logo is the fundamental graphic element of a brand. Couple of years ago I visited the Big Bazaar in Istanbul. This Bazaar is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with 60 covered streets and about 5,000 shops. It's a real shopping experience! Well known for its jewellery, hand-painter ceramics, carpets, spices, antiques, leather and so on. It also houses 2 mosques and 2 hamams. It was built in 1461, so over 550 year old now. continue reading
A brand identity is the image of your company that you promote to consumers. A business, like an individual, has an identity and personality. A brand identity integrates the ideas, personality and values of a company. If you take the time to design a brand identity for your company, you will increase the chances that customers will recognize and trust your company in the future. It is important to note that creating a brand identity is more than simply designing a logo.1. After establishing your... continue reading
Lately, I attended a portrait photography seminar. When it all started, the teacher asked the group to divide itself in two : those with Canon cameras on the left side and those with Nikon on the right side. The people with other camera brands had to go with the group that had less people, in our case the Nikon group. That little episode reminded me of how I struggled when came the time to buy my camera. Which camera brand to go for? After reading A LOT of stuff on the internet and in magazines... continue reading
It's now December and if the world of business is anything like my former corporate life, this is the time of year when department heads are asked to"use it or lose it".Year end budgets are always strange animals in the world of business.Unlike your household budget, where having some money left over is a good thing, in the corporate world, not spending your allocated fund means you get less the following year.So typically at this time of year various departments are looking for ways to... continue reading
With the rise of online social networking sites and virtual information exchange applications like bump, physical business cards have seen somewhat of a decline in recent years. While these new networking alternatives are certainly important tools and can vastly expand your presence both locally and beyond, the fact remains that humans are tactile beings. When is this last time you walked through a clothing store and didn't reach out to feel a sweater, or pick a leaf off of a shrub in passing? In... continue reading
