Off the beaten path

I've been an avid hiker since I can remember.Recording my discoveries on film (or with digital imaging) has always been one of my passions.I have found myself staying with the safe paths lately though. As I get older, climbing rocks and steep hills becomes more difficult. Not too long ago I took a detour during one of my hikes and found a hidden area out of sight of the worn pathway I frequently walk. The terrain became steeper and large rocks blocked the way.Driven by what was to be found... continue reading

Mountains, yes I love them

If you check my portfolio you will see that apart from studio shots there are many mountain views. Climbing or trekking fits perfectly with photography, it's a double pleasure - at least to me ;-)Today I would like to write a few words about Mala Fatra - beautiful mountain range situated in Slovakia, Europe. The highest peaks reach around 1700m (Wielki Krywan), usually around 1500m which make the climbing rather easy and pleasent. For those who just prefere photographing, there are lifts... continue reading

Rock Climbing Photo Shoot

I went to a cliff this past weekend with some friends who are rock climbers, to see if I could get a few good shots. It was a difficult shoot! For one, I hate heights, yet I had to climb down this very steep rock-strewn trail to get to the bottom of the cliff, in order to take photos shooting up the cliff at the climbers. The only equipment I brought was my Nikon D70s with my telephoto/macro lens.I was very careful carrying it around the rocks, but it still got a good ding on the side when... continue reading

Satwa Guna – The beginning of light

I still have a few hours till departure . . . my house is filled with climbing gear... photo equipment...video equipment... some pressure and background music. I already feel the weariness of the two day flight and another three day march until the high areas. I check again and again the blades of the ice axes, the carabiner screws, the altitude bots, the ropes, the altimeter and everything that may seem not thoroughly checked. The optical equipment has already been “polished” by skillful men... continue reading
