11 Ways to Get Started Creating Concept Pieces

(This is the #1 result for "big fish in a small pond." But it's a shark. How could you benefit from creating concepts?)Can I let you in on a dirty little secret?A lot of designers out there don't want to admit it, but, well...There are a lot of us who have "concept" lightboxes. We don't like to talk about it because it's almost as bad as having "miscellaneous" lightboxes in which to dump all sorts of weird stuff that doesn't make sense to a more specific category.I think the... continue reading

Conceptual work over Christmas

Well its that time of year again where the snow starts to fall and if your somewhere warm I'll envy you. Then again it could be worse and I could be back in Montreal in the freezing weather with three feet of snow! Instead I'm in the beautiful province of BC celebrating my first Christmas. This year has been a tough one but I'm not going to let that stop me from having lots of fun! I have been working on a series trying to portray human emotions using a puppet of sorts. This is a start to a series... continue reading

Forcing myself to "shoot stock"

Stock photography is supposed to be serious business, right? Where you have bring well dressed businessmen in dark suit sporting spotless neckties, a finger hovering around in the air drawing an increasing bar graph? Or maybe pressing a button on a touch screen that strikes a deal? Or maybe shaking hands? Not really! I decided to dedicate today to some research and searched some random words and looking into the most downloaded photo, I found strange things.Yeah, business persons with a hand... continue reading

My first ever conceptual image sold!

This was my first ever planned shot....and I had shot this especially for uploading on Dreamstime. And tonight it sold. :)And this was also my 4th uploaded shot on Dreamstime. At that time I was finding this site TOTALLY frustrating. It was like there is no hope. I was getting rejections after rejections for poor lens quality and compression artifacts and a thousand other things I never really could understand. I had signed up just before I turned 18 hoping to earn big. (Now I have been on here... continue reading

Eperimental Conceptual Photo - Euro under fire

This photo below is quite experimental and symbolizes the current financial crisis in the Euro zone.Especially difficult was the light. I mounted myLED torch on a separate tripod to the right of the coin - so that only the burner at the left and the border and backside of the 1 Euro was illuminated but not its glowing front side. Otherwise thered color from the glowing metal would have disappeared.Difficult was also the short distance of my lens to the fire - my only macro is the the 60mm... continue reading

Saturation, Invention, and a new old direction

So here we all are, slavishly adding new images to an ever increasing pile of creativity and opportunity. But how many times now is the same subject being captured from all perspectives, and how long will it be before we can't add a truly "new" image any more?As a 3D artist working with ever more powerful (open-source) software it is rapidly coming to the point where realism can be created. particularly for inorganic subjects and with less effort and time than ever before. Much more capable artists... continue reading

The Challenge of Conceptual Photos

I am a newbie in stock photography, so naturally I have a lot to learn and for me it is a very challenging and at the same time inspiring process…I read lots of articles about what sells best in stock photography, how to take better pictures and so on, but I guess what really intrigues me and inspires me to keep trying is not only the financial side of the issue, but even more the creative one.And talking about creativity I think that concepts are the best example. In my opinion conceptual... continue reading

Creative images must be planned

In my blogsaniphoto.blogspot.com I posted an article in two parts, about the process of creating a couple ideas on social networking. Here I want instead to tell you the preliminary procedures I usually apply before getting the idea done.Basically, if an idea spring to mind, be it during reading, sleeping, a conversation or whatever, what I usually do is a simple search in the agency database and with Picniche, to see if that kind of subject/keyword may be good. Good means that there are few... continue reading

Creative and funny

I was trying to brainstorm recently around some ideas that would convey a humorous or funny visual effect. The idea of 'head into the cloud' was one of these and I made it with great pleasure and fun. Grabbed the material from my personal archive of 'stock images' (photo that I took and keep for usage in such situations) I started to realize these two conceptual photo montages. You can see them here below.Seeing these kind of conceptual ideas, in fact, you can say that I'm more acting... continue reading
