Concert photography

Taking photos at a concert seems like a hard thing to do, so that is why I've decided to try and help by giving you a small technical advice set.Either you have a phone, a compact camera or a high end dslr, one creative person can take really good photos at a concert. I usually have my compact camera with me for several reasons: the security stuff won't pick up on my small camera, it's lighter and easier to carry and hold in a single hand, people will tend to act naturally in front of such a... continue reading

My (non-Stock) Images on National Public Radio (NPR)

The city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (USA) was greatly influenced by German and Polish cultures. While the demographics are changing, there is still a lingering tradition of polka music. There is a tavern in the city where everyone is welcome to come one night each week to play polka music or to just watch and listen. A number of old-timers show up and they crank away on their concertinas. I worked on a small photo-documentary project and spent a number of evenings photographing the people. By coincidence,... continue reading

Getting behind the rope lines for a u2 concert

When you have an SLR camera people often automatically treat you like you belong where ever you put yourself. If you are asked for ID, and told to leave, do just that. But for a public event you have the right to wonder around public areas.I would have been much more successful if I wasn't walking my dog at the same time. continue reading

Visiting London in July to see Michael Jackson

I am too excited about the recent announcements by Michael Jackson about his comeback concerts. I had missed the opportunity to see my idol live in India when he had the HIStory concerts going on, since I was a kid. My parents found it very costly and risky to send me to the concerts at that time. But then as a child as a fan by desire to see my idol live has been eating me. It started harassing me more since I entered this field of entertainment where I do my job as a singer, composer and songwriter.... continue reading

Justyesterday my wife and I were at the We Are One Concert at the Lincoln Memorial for the inauguration of Barack Obama.Like many we were were turned away due to huge lines trying to get through security. The guy said the wait would be so long that the 2 hour concert would be over by the time we got in.The Washington Monument grounds had large screens broadcasting the concert so that is were we went.Over 500,000 people attended this concert and my wife and I became separated unable to locate... continue reading

Indoor concert photography

Shooting a concert outdoor with plenty of light is relatively simple. Shooting a concert indoor, NOT in the press pit and surrounded by horde of dancers is not as easy. Things get more complicated if you are dancing while shooting, which put my Alpha's sensor stabilizer under exteme pressure. But how much fun. This was my first time and I went through a steep learning curve, not sure I could have pulled any shot in almost complete darkness and with the poor ISO performance of my entry level DSLR.... continue reading
