The Everglades Turns 70

Yesterday, Everglades National Park turned 70. It is the most surprisingly beautiful place I have ever had the pleasure of getting to know. I do not know about you, but when I think of a swamp, I think of being sweaty, itchy from bugs and wet from the mud. It did not seem a very inviting landscape. I was very wrong....its majestic. Many of my best photographs have been taken in the marshes behind my home in Florida. It is peaceful, strange and understated.... continue reading

Nature conservation from a Buddhist point of view.

As long as we see nature, animals, trees, minerals, lakes, rivers and oceans as something apart from us, we will believe that we can dominate it, survive without it and spoil it without consequences.Only when we understand deeply that we are literally made of water, air, sun and minerals,we will begin to behave with respect, humbleness and admiration towards nature and forget about our ignorant and destructive way of thinking, seeing ourselves as the crown of the creation, something not related,... continue reading

“Green Building”

“Green Building” or sustainable buildings are used in construction industry, interior design, maintenance more and more and aspire to improve various objectives such as: energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor air quality, local sourcing, and so forth. TO A HAPPY HEALTHY EARTH

Taking a hint from homydesign and mani in regards to celebrate tomorrow 's event of EARTH DAY april 22, 2010, I like to echo something I read of the efforts made bythe Waterkeeper Alliance, the international environmental organization to promote the protection of water quality and its canadian chapter headed by a certain Mark Mattson.I won't go into details regarding their objective, as those interested can easily google to find more information within their own countries. In short, this organization... continue reading

Think Green, Save Blue

Everyone spends a great deal of time and energy discussing the environment these days.Global warming, the oceans rising, and strange weather events. Very few media events focus a great deal of energy on a much more serious problem, saving fresh water. There are some parts of the United States where droughts are so bad that people are using rain buckets to collect fresh water so they can water their plants when there is no rain because using sprinklers is prohibited.Water is a precious resource... continue reading
