The fool in the rain

What do you do on a totally overcast morning with light rain? Put a rain cover on your camera and go out anyway! The humid days bring stormy nights here in the southeastern United States. The rainfall from last evening has held on through the night into this morning. But I’ve made a personal challenge to go birding and shooting (photographs) every day throughout the month. So what do I do facing the light rain? Get out there anyway! I haven’t spent the money on a commercial rain cover... continue reading

The perfect location shoot for a book cover!

I like to write romance novels and Dreamstime is the perfect location for me to look for potential book covers because I’m looking to publish independently. There are so many images that have potential for me that it took me six hours to choose the one I want to use for my first cover. But for me, what would a perfection location be for this type of photo? Personally, I would choose a small country town, with quaint old buildings and maybe one traffic light. A place where traffic isn’t an issue... continue reading

How to Spoof Your Own Magazine Cover

I always dreamed someday I would be on the cover of National Geographic. So when I saw my favorite magazine promote an online tool to create a “mock” magazine using my very own image – I knew I would finally be able to realize that dream. And while it may only be a spoof magazine cover, it sure gave me a thrill to see it, and I pranked quite a few of my friends with it as well! I wanted to be able to share that feeling with others, so if NatGeo is your dream publication as well, try their free... continue reading

Stock Art and a Little PhotoShop Can Make a Hero

There are so many resources for stock art available on the internet. They serve quality images that can be used by anyone to make their projects look professional and exciting. Stock art is as easy to find and use as cheesy clip art, but the difference is that stock art provides richer and more relatable imagery that enhance the message. Stock art is not low brow. There are many professionals out there who use stock houses as an additional means of revenue for their craft. This means that everyday... continue reading

Tips to Rock your next Facebook Cover Image

Admit it, unless you live under a rock, you have used Facebook for at least some of your daily life. But what you may not want to admit is what kind of user you are.   Are you the “post every detail of your day from sun rise to sun set” kind of user?Or maybe you are the “I have an opinion and I just have to share it” user?Possibly you fall into the “I just want my friends and family to know where I am and what I’m doing” kind of user.Do you simply troll others online,... continue reading

Book Cover Design - How to choose and use images

When starting thinking about creating a book cover design, a great place to begin is by going online and looking at covers of books from the same genre as the one you are designing for.Amazon is an excellent place to do this. Look at the covers of the top-selling books in the categories your book will be in. what sort of fonts, images, colours, styles and moods do these covers have? Books from the same genre usually have a similar style of cover. As cover style is a major factor shoppers use... continue reading

First known ever book's cover page

The cover of this book has a special history.Without going into details, this photo was not purchased through Dreamtime or via another microstock agency. It was donated to the author of the book graciously to illustrate the book. As there is a hierarchical relationship between the author and subject myself, there was no question of negotiating anything else. On the other side, I was quite proud that he thought about my photos for his book. So I suggested him a series of photos of the Peace Palace... continue reading

Magazine Cover:)

I recently broke my wrist and had a cast above my elbow.I couldn't drive, couldn't open a jar, and could hardly lift, hold and use my camera. So imagine my dismay when the mother of the models I work with ask me to take some photos. She wanted to try for a magazine cover shot for her kids who often model for me.I had to say "yes" since she makes her kids available to me when I want to take some stock images. But how?I could barely hold my camera steady.I couldn't manage setting up and... continue reading

Is he the serious sort, or more mischievous? This sexy cowboy is depending on me to fill in a few blanks and I've got a story for him, just waiting to be written.www.kckendricks.com-Passion without rules- continue reading
