Readers of my previous blog on airshow photography will know that I enjoy photographing aviation subjects and always try and get to an airshow each year. This year I was set to go to the Airbourne airshow at Eastbourne but bad weather on the day I was going led to the cancellation of all flying. The excellent Dunsfold airshow which I attended last year was out as I wasn't free to go that weekend. This really only left the annual airshow at Shoreham-on-Sea in my area. This became a must see event when... continue reading

Everyone seems to have a story when it comes to losing precious data from their computer and it's not just photos I've lost in the past, it's been music, bookmarks, contacts etc. . . .Let's face it, if your computer suffers a major failure there's an awful lot of stuff we take for granted that can suddenly disappear in the blink of an eye. That's why backing up your data is vitally important and while I'm mainly going to describe my photography back-up processes, it's equally important to back-... continue reading

Yes, it can and will in time happen to you. Protect yourself by making two DVD's of your original images, save one copy in your desk and another in a second place. Not in the same building!I had a studio and a house burn to the ground. (five years apart) lost everything and learned my lesson. Save, and save again!I lost thousands of commercial images as well as mine. Don' let it happen to you.Good luck!-Larry continue reading
It just figures, you go to upgrade, and all hell breaks loose...Our computer registry was fouled, and we had a bad stick of RAM, so we had to reconfigure the entire machine.Fortunately, our catalog was now safe on our external, and it's only the machine we are dealing with. Why fortunate? Because, when we brought it home, we hooked it up, BAM... the Shredder Trojan attached itself to our machine.HOLY COW!!This is one of the most annoying and nastiest viruses I've ever delt with.We've... continue reading
So, GREAT NEWS!! We upgraded our camera!! YAY!!At the same time, we purchased an external hard drive, thinking we'd put the company on that.Well, somehow, in the process of installing the driver for the ext, something got screwed up...But, it didn't mess up, right away. So, not knowing it was damaged, I began to move our catalog over to the ext.And... it crashed. Then, the whole computer crashed, and we lost the last two weeks of images, ALL of our RAW files, everything we had in our own... continue reading
Technology is wonderful until it doesn't work! My computer has crashed twice in the last three years. When I started down the road to becoming more knowledgeable about today's technology, I forgot to take into consideration the many ways that technology can also bite you in the butt! I had many photos stored on my hard drive that are now gone forever. Some of them cannot be replaced and I learned to back up my files on a frequent schedule. There are a number of ways to do this but I have found that... continue reading
